Interested in an A-10

I dropped back in a month or so ago to keep up on what was going on. BTW I still work at the depot just on the F-16 now but, like Cuda, I still keeep-up on the best ground attack aircraft ever built…the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

Thanks for the kind words hope I can live to to them. [:D]

I never expected this many responses and am grateful for them all. Hopefully the LHS will have one on Friday when I go. (I have a gift certificate or would have already bought it online.)

Thanks again.

Sorry Ruddatt for the delay, been a bit busy lately.

Thanks for the kind words[:I], but you haven’t seen it[(-D] Looks good till you see the seams and whatnots I didn’t bother with. The Black Box fit is tricky. It sits atop the nose gear bay that has to be assembled first. If the gear bay is off at all, it throws the cockpit awry as there is no extra room. I vaguely recall a problem with width, may have something to do with the access ladder bay. other than that, have fun[:D]

I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday and I noticed the normal price on their Revell A-10 is something like $15, and this week it’s 30% off. That’s a whole lot of model for about $10 - I almost bought one myself just on spec. On the other hand, you probably don’t want to deprive your LHS of a sale.

Flatlander;

Here’s a great combo to make a very nice A-10A and it wont cost as much as the Italeri,

the Revell-O-Gram A-10A Kit ($15.00), True Details A-10A Cockpit Resin Set ($8.98), Shull24 A-10A Exterior Resin Update set ($8.00) and that comes to $31.98 compaired to the Italeri kit that starts out at $35.99 and there is where it’ll start (ON DETAILED COCKPIT is just a start) the only down fall is that you’ll need to rescribe the panel lines on the Revell-O-Gram kit but that’s not to hard to do it’ll just take time that’s all

72cuda - oops, my bad. I went back to HL yesterday and the kit was $19 retail, not $15 (still 30% off, though). Anyway, after agonizing about it for a bit (cheap, that’s me), I decided no.

Today I notice that someone is organizing an A-10 group build, so maybe I will go back yet again and pick up the kit after all. I’ll probably build it pretty much the way you said. It’s been a long time since I did a rescribe job and this will get me back in the groove (pun intended).

If you have neve rescribed an entire kit before, the monogram A-10 is a good first one. Most the lines are straight and there is little curve to the airframe. It was the first on I did and had minor problems with it. If you want a bit of inspiration, I will post a pic of mine, at your request, not wanting to thread jack this one or anything (like I’v never done that before[;)])

Drew, re-scribing the panel lines will definitely be a new experience for me. I scored an R/M kit today on Ebay and am happy to hear this is a good first kit for the job. And yes, please post your pics. And if you, or anyone else, has the paint list for this kit would you mind posting it as well? I doubt I have some of the colors needed since all of what I have is geared towards armor. And it would be nice to have all the paint on hand when the kit arrives.

Depends on what scheme your doing CW. If its the more modern scheme, I believe its light ghost gray and dark ghost gray are the only two colors, oh, and dark gull gray for the office. Those three colors are on almost every jet out there in some combination!

Thanks, Drew. I really like the detail on those Black Box sets, so it sounds like it’s gonna be worth the extra effort to make it fit. Should be fun! [;)]

Hey Reluctant Wanderer,

I didn’t see a response to your question about Shull24’s A-10 update set, so forgive if this is redundant. Shull24’s items can be found and purchased at http://shull24.com and his webpage catalog includes a breakout of the directions and parts included with each of his sets. Unfortunately his shop is temporarily closed. I have the Shull24 A-10 set and although it was specifically made for the Revell/Monagram kit it appears to me that the individual parts could be added to the exterior of any 1/48 scale A-10 kit to replicate a GPS/LASTE equipped Hog. Additionally I have never had any issues with Shull24’s service and responsiveness…highly recommended!!

Good luck, Bwog

No need to apologize, Bwog. Thank you for the consideration, and for the info on the site. That’s a bummer to hear that his shop is temporarily closed, but I hope it will re-open again, and then I will get a set. I’ve waited this long, a little longer can’t hurt. Thanks again.

Blimey , I knew that this gun was BIG but fires at 7.30 and exits at 9. An hour and a half just to leave the barrel.

ROFL…good one gary!

Hey Flatlander,

Sorry I missed your post when I looked earlier. I am the one trying to get the A-10 group build set up, your welcome to join if you want, as the old saying goes:“the more the merrier.”

in fact, anybody who wants to join, your all invited. I’ve noticed a big interest in the A-10 as of late. It would be great if we got together as a group to model this fine aircraft, and it’d be great if you guys joined us. So far I ahve two confirmed, and one advisor. Thanks Cuda. Dice, it’s be great if you could join us too in the reference capacity as well.

here’s the link for the GB Thread (will move it to the GB board when I get some more on board):

BTW Gary, about your comment:

[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

good one!

Thanks,

~R-W

So how does the True Details pit go in? Is it much of a pain???

Please spare time for an idiot what does ROFL and BTW mean? Allways puzzled by abreviations

ROFL = Rolling On the Floor Laughing

BTW = By The Way

Don’t confuse ROFL wiht ROTFLMAO which is Rolling On The Floor, Laughing My A$$ Off.

eizzle;

From my example it looks like your going to have to clean away the cockpit side details and a little bit of trimming here and there but it’s not as extensive as the Black Box set, by the way is very nice set but for the cost of the True Details set it’s about 1/2 the cost and is fairly nice too. I haven’t started on my A-10A builds yet but I have them in my collection so I can’t really get down into details on the fit

Hey Eizzle,

Here is a link to squadron.com and the True Details cockpit. If you click on “additional view” it shows a nice cutaway of the kit. I’ve used TD before, on a PBY, and they are top notch sets.

Hope this helps
