Inspiration (?) for singershu13 -- 72nd C-130

Italeri kit, all scribed up.

Nice looking Build

Well Done

That Hercules is BEAUTIFUL, Pat!! Great job!

I like how it’s labeled as “Troop carrier”. Like anyone would be less likely to try and shoot it down lol. Nice work, looks very nice! What NMF did you use?

Thank-you! The silver is mostly Tamiya spray can silver, decanted and airbrushed. It goes on a lot like Model Master Chrome Silver, but the Tamiya stuff dries almost instantly and you can buff it up a bit.

Tamiya spray is a lacquer, right? Probably behaves much like our beloved Alclad[;)]

I see you made a representation of the “corner” on the bottom of the fuselage that is missing on the C-130 kits. Did you go all the way and build it up, or just add a stringer to give the impression? I wish no one had brought up that corner in the cross section. Now that I know it is there all my C-130 kits bug me!

Never having used Alclad, I don’t know how the two would compare. I’m sure Alclad would buff up to a brighter finish.

As for the “corners”, do you mean those lengthwise raised strips on the fuselage? I added those. I assumed they were some kind of strenghteners. They certainly are there on the airplane if you look for them. I believe on the kit they’re represented with pairs of raised lines.

Hawxboss!

Thanks Man! That is a lot of inspiration, looks great! is it just me or does the scribing seem to take years? Anyway, I love it. I was going to do the gray airforce version of the H, with minimal markings. Such beautiful seems too! I spent about 2 hours last night working on one wing of scribing. I am going to start on teh flight deck today and hopefully get some of that completed. I was planning on leaving everything open too, so I"ll have to find a way to emulated the details inside because I don’t believe the kit comes with walls. But I planned on doing alot myself, so it was expected! I’d love to hear anything about the build that might help as I have done zero assembling to this point and it’s been about a week.

Thanks alot!

Look’s good, Pat. Hope to see more of your builds and some of your tech tips as well.

I don’t remember any serious assembly issues. I replaced the four small double window pieces with single bits of clear acrylic, blending them into the fuselage and polishing them out. Separated the elevators from the stabs and relaxed them a bit. The scribing operation was a bear. No avoiding that. I didn’t attempt any of the lines on the engine nacelles forward of the leading edge.

Closing everything up created a bunch of fit problems, but I think I’d rather deal with that than try to put an interior into the beast.

You’re a brave man, singershu.

Pat:

The corners I am referring to are where the stringers are that you added, but the C-130 fuselage actually has a kind of flattened bottom, which results in a “corner” where the bottom curvature meets the side curvature. Here is a closeup of it, a fine photo by Ian Powell. Please do not distribute this photo. This line between the two curvatures goes all the way to the cargo door.

Hello John. Beautiful clear shot. I think the subtlties of the bottom escaped me and Italeri. I remember it as pretty circular all the way round. Your image shows well how the windows blend in with the skin - as they do on almost all airplanes - and almost never do on plastic models. As much as it would’ve made life easier, the kit pieces looked awful to me. Also forgot to mention that all the small circular windows on mine were black decal dots. Seems pretty acceptable way to handle them, unless you want to start opening doors. Then you probably would like to see light streaming through the insides.
