Really cool find Beans. But like a couple of posters over on the linked site I’d have figured the rear third of the ship was engines. I’d figure if nothing else the fuel tanks and hyperdrive would take up more space.
Nice, very nice. But it makes me wonder what’s inside the mandibles.
Agreed. I also think that the main hold can be centered rather than shoved over to port. I’ve been deeply influenced by Rob Brown’s “Ship of Riddles” web site, though. (You can see the site here; it’s very interesting reading.)
Nevertheless, this model is superb, and it matches the official blueprints.
Yes, this is a truly glorious build, I don’t want to detract from this epic work. But while I like the Millenium Falcon, style, aging, proportion… I have always felt it was the most useless looking ship in all of SciFi history. I mean it’s a cargo ship with no room for any cargo ! It’s wonderful in the movies and fun to look at, but in reality it’s a useless piece of junk [:P]
What do you think? What ship would be more useless to it’s purpose?
Still a great model. 5 out of 5 stars
Old thread here but I had to respond. I have always agreed…how can the Falcon be a freighter? There is like zero room for cargo! Unless it’s designed to act as a tractor unit to move cargo containers but we’ve never seen any design function of the ship that might indicate that such a mechanism exists. It also doesn’t look fast. I get that might be part of the gag concerning my the Falcon but I think some I fixation of performance under the hood would be appealing.
Awesome model of an iconic vessel, but yeah, I agree with you that its design is rather useless. Seems like it is more of an escort vessel or attack vessel, like an up gunned B-25 or A-26 medium bomber.
Definitely didn’t have the cargo freighter appearance.
I’ve always thought of it like a cigarette boat rather than a bulk freighter. It’s built to carry small amounts of high-value (and often illegal) cargo very fast and very stealthily. Probably began life as a small passenger carrier that got stripped out.
Hello;
Ah, But, The Corellians " Built the best freighters at the time." The whole lower deck forward of the engines was freight hold. Now,there is a pattern in the shipyard shop of a Valuables (Specialty) frieghter that is a dead ringer for the Millenium Falcon.
Remember That all three of the former owners modified her. She was a bulk freighter first Then Jabba, had her modified for contraband and Lando Calrissian modified her even more as did Solo. Her biggest hiccup was, as with most tramp ships, Not enough yard time!
She made up for it in the most unlikely ways, Speed and Durability. The second thing even a Kevlar covered Cigarette Boat couldn’t Live up to. Look at her design closely and you’ll see she’s more than one deck tall!
I ain’t gonna tell you how I got to look at those plans. My Mandalorian Body Guard would have to desist You! You know how it is. “May the Force be with You " T.B. P.S. one thing that many miss is this. A cargo pod could be mounted between the " Pincers” Oh, an aside here. The LEGO ship has all that stuff in her too!
WHAT THE!!!..WHAT THE???..Holy freakin MOLY!!!
NERD ALERT!!! NERD ALERT!!!
Oh man…THAT…is STUNNING!!!
that’s why i’ve always like this picture. it nicely explains the offset cockpit.
Never seen this one before just fantastic.
Aha!!
You must’ve seen one at the Station in orbit over Corellia!
