i’m new to this site & recently restarted modeling after several years (about 40). My how things have changed! I have started out with Dragons 1:32 P-51D early pro. mustang & am trying to find the proper color for the fusilage interior. i prefer model master colors and would be very thankful for any help. mommadoopgump.
The interior color would be MM interior green. If you haven’t built in 40 years, you prolly could have picked an easier kit as the Dragon P-51 has a mirade of fit and accuracy issues.
thanks much for your imput & headsup on other issues. recieved kit as gift from someone who loves this plane. I’ll try my best and take my time. thanks again
NP, and good luck[:)]
The interiors of most WWII aircraft were painted with zinc chromate and it is indeed a light green with a touch of yellow. Testors has, or did have, a MM enamel called “Zinc Chromate” and it is a good representation of the original color. Do not use Tamiya’s “zinc chromate” as it is way too yellow.
The same paint was also used inside most bomb bays and wheel wells.
i’ve noticed zinc chromate mentioned on different sites as well as interior green. Thanks
First of all, [#welcome], glad you’re here and modeling again.

By the way, “zinc chromate” is a primer, not a color, per se. It can be yellow, green, or somewhere in between. The article explains it well. For a P-51D, Interior Green is really the color you want.
Don’t let the “issues” of the Dragon kit deter you. It will be great practice for your first build back.

Excellent site! thanks. am still a caveman with computer but the deeper i delve the more i find. what next, a cell phone!!
The shades of “Zinc Chromate” varied a lot. Yes, there were standards but, production lines were churning this beasts out. So, if the color wasn’t the standard … too bad…squirt it on the A/C and move onto the next.
Welcome back to modleling! A socially acceptable outlet for OCD issues!
Cheers
