The 2010 modeling year got rolling on Saturday with the start of the Dragon Tiger I initial production in 1/72. I have the 3 in 1 kit in 1/35 and spent some time comparing the detail and parts to each other. The 1/72 kit is nothing short of amazing.
The build is nearly done. I textured the jack block and wired th headlights and the smoke launchers. The smoke launchers themselves are made from some 1/16 aluminum tubing that was chucked in the Dremel and the OD reduced in size then drilled out. The hatches got some latch handles made form scrap PE fret.
Wow, that’s some sharp braille-scale detailing Marc! You’re a brave man than I in terms of tackling wiring at that scale, looks like 2010 is off to a great start. [;)]
Just following along and want to say thanks for the inspiration to start thing about trying my own hand at 1:72 after seeing the detail in that wee one.
BTW, excellent photos. Must be a great macro lens you’re working with.
Anyway, thanks again for presenting you work for us. Looking very, very good.
Thanks for taking time out of your schedule and stopping by… and for the compliment.
Posted the build over on Armorama and a guy that is somewhat of a Tiger I aficionado pointed out a few things that I have since fixed.
The storage bins are now correctly even with the top of the turret. The wiring (hard to see in these pics) now comes out of the top of the turret just behind the mounting bracket. Also, it was pointed out there should be a track tool kit mounted on the rear next to the jack block. The jack blocked had to be cut off and moved over a tiny bit for everything to fit. Since the block is molded on it left a hole that needed to be partially filled. The brackets and straps for the tool box are made from lead foil and scrap PE.
After priming with Mr Surfacer 1200 the base coat of gray was put down. This was lightened with white and some Italian Sand. The modulation was done with gray as it comes from the bottle.
Marc this guy is coming along real nice[Y]. The extra detail your adding is really gonna make this one stand out. Nice to see that Dragon included the engine deck screens with their newer /72 kits. Did they also include the rear pnzr III type stowage bin?
Well Steve… yes and no. They include the lid and back of the bin. No side, bottom or brackets. Weird huh? Seems that would have been a nice inclusion since, from what i am finding out, there were field mods putting those bins on the turret. But since they only give the markings for #100 that doesn’t have that bin… But then why just the 2 parts.
Dupes…What facebook deal? Not that it matters since I am not on face book. But as long as you have 1, you gotta build things. It is sweet.
