Hey, guys/girls. I’m not really into modelling cars and the like ever since i screwed up a nascar montecarlo when i was a kid, but i was wondering if you huys ever heard of the Japanese anime called “Initial D”? It’s a nice little series that deals with street racers in Japan. Here’s my question: Do you guys know of a kit of the Inital D AE86 (haichi-roku) or decals of this car (with details for the fujiwara tofu shop)? if not is there a kit for the Toyota '86 Trueno? Apparantly it is one of the last FR cars released by Toyota and is the car driven buy the protagonist in the series… if there is one, it might be my comeback into Auto modelling! Thanks for the Info guys! [:D]
Hi, Shrike!
Yup, I’ve seen the show a coupla times. An interesting mix of traditional anime and CG imagery. Most of the race scenes are CG.
I’ve seen the kits here and there at local hobby shops, but I’m not up on the specifics. I’ll check 'em out next visit.
They just released a CCG of it, too. Heard good things about it. Never seen the show, though.

It’s a really good anime (aside from the fact that street racing is illegal)… well, at least it keeps me entertained. The music is great too (i’ve burned most of the songs to a CD already). The end credits say that “if you payed for this episode, you were cheated”, so i suppose you can get it off the 'net for free somewhere… It’s a surprisingly short series, though. 1st Stage, 2nd Stage, 3rd Stage (the “movie”), Extra Stage (one episode) and the Battle Stage (all of the compiled races re-done in better CG). Though i have to ask, what is a CCG?
As for the kits, who makes them and in what scale? (I have no idea what scale cars and trucks come in. That might be blasphemy!) Looking forward to more info on this!
I only saw the show on TV. Seems like it was always on late at night when I would channel surf. I’d usually only stop to watch the races, so I have no idea about the story.
I believe the kits may be Fujimi, in either 1/24 or 1/25 scale. I’ll see what I can see at the LHSs around here.
Aahhh, intial D, fun series.
And Shrikes my frined…
Go to Hobby Link Japan and do a Search for Initial D. They ship world wide so you can pick a few up
Warning: Fujimi kits are fairly basic, some are not bad, most are not great. But they’re passable if you have the patience.
CCG stands for Collectable Card Game. It’s kinda like the Magic Card Game, only completely different. Very cool, though.
Sorry for the confusion.

Only experience of the series I have had is the Playstation 2 Game (Japan only for the moment). Useful for pictures of the car I suppose.
There is a Fujimi 1:24 Initial D AE86 on Ebay, but it is shipped from Hong Kong so you can almost double the “Buy it now” price:

here is a cheaper “Buy it now”, from the same place!

Postage by Air Mail is $11 which makes the second one $20.99 which I suppose isn’t that bad.
The seller says he will compensate if it gets damaged in transit.
Thanks, Bassman! JEEZ. I didn’t realize that there are so many Initial D kits out there! I’m really tempted by that 2nd e-bay post… (why is it at the end of the month when my bank account is stretched to the limit?!?) though it’s a little peculiar that the shipping costs more than the kit… [censored][censored][censored] I might just buy it! ARGH!!! [:)]
