I went to Carb Day at the Indy 500 yesterday and took a bunch of pictures and thought I would share them here.
Very nice looking classic. The guys that drove those were either crazy or brave… or both.
Fantastic photos! Thank you so much for posting these. I’m not a "Car Guy"or follow the racing circuits but why do they call it “Carb Day?”
The final practice before the Indy 500 is called “Carb Day” because it was historically the day teams would fine-tune the carburetors on their engines. They don’t have carburetors anymore but the name stuck.
Thanks dadofofour! I thought that maybe they called it “Carb Day” because the drivers loaded up on pasta(carbs)before the big race to ensure that they had enough energy to make it through the entire race.
I’m sure they load up on race day. I was watching them adjust cars in pit row and they had umbrellas they held over the drivers so they wouldn’t bake in the sun. They also had battery powered blowers with hoses they hooked up to the car to force cooling air over the drivers while pitting. They seem to think of everything!
