Individual tracks

Can someone please tell me, since I am new to armor, exactly what the advantage is to individual links provided by Drago as opposed to the rubber tracks supplied by Tamiya? I am starting an Abrams tonite and I look at the individual links and I am cringeing. Am I over reacting. Are they better? I assume they are going to be a lot of work to build and get right.

They are more work but better replicate any sag you would have with tracks. Now an Abrams does not have sag. They aren’t as hard as they look. I clean up sink marks and paint mine while still on the tree, then assemble, then touch up and wash and drybrush. The key is to make a jig to keep them straight. I have a thick, flat edged ruler with 2 holes in it. I screw that to a board and then press one side of the tracks against it to keep the run I am working on straight. I make a lenth that is long enough for the top run plus enough to hang over . Then I do the bottom. I use Testors Orange cement and the key is to glue it, give it just a few minutes to cure a little then ben it around the wheels before the glue hardens. Some people will form them but don’t complete the loop, then take take them off and paint them

The biggest advantage to indy links is detail, and for the most part, indy links are far better detailed than rubber-band tracks. They are a lot more work to assemble than rubber band, but not that bad. You will need to build them up in sections and contour to the vehicle to be able to take them off and paint separately, then join to the vehicle.
