Indianapolis Air Show

Today I went to my first air show and it was great! It was the Indianapolis Air Show at Mount Comfort Airport. The Blue Angels were there, but we had to wait the whole show for them. The A-10 and Army Golden Knights parachutists were cool, but my favorites were the warbirds of course. 3 P-51s, a P-47, a F4U Corsair from the Korean era, a FM2 Wildcat, and a C-47 were the highlights. You guys have probably seen all these planes before, but it was great for me. The most impressive in flight warbirds were the Corsair and the Hawker Sea Fury. You really can hear the Corsair “whistle” and the Sea Fury is one fast bird. I just thought I’d share this with some fellow aircraft enthusiasts. [:D]

I can understand your excitement! I was lucky enough to the “The Blues” last weekend, and watching the mock air races at Oshkosh every year with the Super Corsair and Sea Fury is unforgettable. Glad you enjoyed the show! [:D]

the N’Awlins Airshow a few weeks ago really topped just about everything that I have seen and I have been going to air shows for over 30 years!

The Blue Angels were there. They had an EF-18G Growler parked for static display, and this plane is just barely getting into replacement squadron service. What a sweet bit of research I got to do there! One of the coolest things I have ever seen was an air combat demonstration–they launched 6 F-18 Hornets from the resident Marine squadron, and then an F-5E Adversary Tiger took off from VFC-13. They flew an example of a typical scenario, with one Hornet acting as a FAC. They sent two in to chase off the F-5E posing as a MiG-21, and the rest of the planes demonstrated close-air support work. They did a full air combat maneuvering demo right there in front of the crowd, havent seen that anywhere except for when I was in the Navy! They had the F-22 fly its display, an F/A-18E, F-15, and flyovers by the B-52 and B-2 stealth bomber. Only gripe was the lack of warbirds. They had one B-25 and a Mustang, and an old C-1 Trader(think S-2 Tracker but the cargo version for COD). But still one of the best shows ever!

I live near the Greenwood Airport, and we had a pair of Osprys flying in and out of there all day long. Looked like they were doing something down at Atteberry. They flew right over by house and literally shook the walls!

Sounds like a fun time, if you can come up north to Michigan next month you should like the airshow there. Here is a list of performers.

I’ve heard that after the Vietnam reenactment a B52 will be doing a flyover.

squeakie, they did have some Ospreys flying around. Here’s a pic of me by a P-47
