Well, I finally got my Tamiya Spit and got started. Here’s the progress so far… I’m waiting for an Ultracast resin seat to get here so I can complete the cockpit. Sorry for the poor focus, my camera is crap. (not to mention I’m not good at using it) I’ve also ordered “B wing” cannons, and exhausts (also from Ultracast Resin).
you’re off to a solid start…I’m curious to see how you build goes, as I can’t go too much longer without having a Spitfire in my collection. Keep posting pics.
Ok, got the Ultracast seat installed. I was actually surprised at how brittle the resin was, but other than that, I’m very happy with it. Check back later, more progress pics soon…
Okay, here’s the latest progress on my Spit. I’ll be Futuring tomorrow and then, wish me luck, I’m going to try a wash for the first time. More pics later…
Please do elaborate, what problem are you refering too? I didn’t realize there was one, as I am guilty of limited research and doing this kit OOB, with the exception of the Ultracast goodies.
Good catch, Jeebus, actually I realized this when I went to install the windshield and corrected it. Oh, and, by the way, it’s a Mk. Vb…[;)]. I do appreciate the “constructive criticism” though, being a rookie, I can use all the pointers I can get.
the problem with both the 1/72 and the 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Vb is that the curve of the wing leading edge starts from the fuselage centerline, when it should start from the wing root. This means that the curvature of the wing leading edge is too acute - just enough to notice on the outer third or so of the wing. It also means that the wing tip is a few mm too far aft.
Most people don’t bother to do anything about this, but with a good set of plans, it easy enough to sort.
Oh, I see. I believe that I fit into the "not noticing"stereotype. Since I already have the paint finished, I think I’ll leave it alone this time, but maybe if I do another Spit. Thanks for the info though!
Thanks for all your comments, as I said before, I’ll be posting more pics when I have more visible progress. Oh, and one thing I forgot to post is that I welcome and appreciate anyone who wants to post their own Spitfire pics, regardless of version, finished, in progress, whatever. Feel free everyone!
here’s a 1/48 Spitfire Vc, based on the Airfix kit, which I built a couple of months ago for a GB on the late, lamented, Airfix.com forum. It has a lot of the detail parts rplaced with parts from the ICM Spit IX, some scratch-built stuff, and aftermarket decals for a white-and-natural-metal RAAF machine.
gedenke,
Here is my Spit Vb I’m currently working on. It’s a 1:24 so it’s pretty big. These are some shots of the office and engine which came with the kit. I added some details such as tubing and wiring. Enjoy…
