Imai Santa Maria

I’m going to try sending pic’s of the Santa Maria I finished this year.I changed the deadeyes to open heart deadeyes. My wife sewed the sails for me.I used my method of wood stains and oils for my finish.I used CIM rope for the rigging. This time I didn’t weather the running rigging. I don’t know yet Whether i like it that way or not.

Rod

Rod,

I am looking forward to seeing this beauty!

Steve

Finally with my son’s help We got picture’s here.

Rod

I also have to thank David Kump for his great assistance. I have another build thats almost done. i’ll sens some pic’s of that.

Rod

Rod,

Your Santa Maria looks beautiful. Did you use a different color on the hull bracing? It looks a tad darker than the hull planking. I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday.

Steve

She’s a beauty, Rod! I like the sails, too!

Someday I may need to go back and build another Imai Santa Maria (and probably a Spanish Galleon, too)…

Your ships always impress me, my friend.

Can’t wait to see what you share next! Happy Holidays!

David

She is a beauty! I am impressed!

Bill Morrison

I concur; she is a beauty! I am impressed!

Very nicely done Rod.

I do love the wood colors you chose. The sails look really good.

Mike

Fantastic work Rod. Your paint method produces a really nice contrast and balance of color, and those sails really make the model. Did you and your wife use any starch in the sails to help hold the shape?

Rod,

It looks like you used hearts for some of the rigging, if so, could you tell me what size you used? I really like the effect and I think I will use hearts instead of the kit provided blocks on my Catalan construction. Even though I have said it before, I never tire of looking at your work.
