In looking at other members finished projects, I’m in awe. The attention to detail and use of techniques that I’ve never heard of. That right, I’m new and I’ll informed. I mean there are people using multiple brands of paint for multiple reasons. I don’t understand. And other who combine parts from different manufactures. Who knew?
By the way, are there any lady modelers out there?

I’m fairly new here myself and I agree with you, there is some awesome work being done here! I’m one of the “older” guys mentioned and I am buying all kinds of stuff we didn’t have when I was younger to try out. The other modelers here are great and full of great advice that they are more then willing to share. So welcome and remember…we like pics of the builds you are doing!
P.S. just last night, I used an airbrush for the first time! Where has that been all my life!!!

Just outside your comfort range (financial range)?
I got my 1st AB when I was 12. It was the best investment I ever made. My 1st job was a result of that airbrush. Now, I use an AB daily at work to weather train cars. I use a brush sparingly now, and mainly for weathering techniques or vary fine detail work.

Welcome and I apologize for the question, but are you a lady? I ask this because of your question. I’ve seen other ladies here and there is some amazing talent.
Thank you all for the encouragement and nice to meet you. I think I gave the wrong impression. I am excited to get back into the hobby. I even bought a fairly nice airbrush and compressor. I still suck at using it but will get better. My 30 year old tank model is coming along fairly well. I repaired the main gun which was broken in half. A new hinge was made for one of the hatches out of laminated shim stock. I tried some weathering on the top of the turret - came out pretty good (I think). I pulled of the radio from inside the turret and detailed it. I also made a new gun barrel shroud from real cloth.
I’m currently grinding off fake hand holds and such and making new ones from wire and staples. And most of this was inspired but looking at stuff you guys have posted. But I am still in awe!
I enjoyed littletimmy’s story! Someone asked me if was a lady because I had asked if there are any lady modelers out there. Nope - I’m a 60 year guy with a wife and three grown kids.
If I knew how to attach a photo to this I would. I’ll have read up on this and try again. Once again, thank you.
The camera is the modelmaker’s best friend. Why? Because when you take a picture from five feet away and then post the picture on line so that it’s a 3" x 3" square, no one can see the gigantic thumb print on your paint job. You can also take pictures of certain sides of the model that do NOT show the mistakes you made on the other side.

Welcome aboard Offlaker. You sound like me 60 years old, three grown kids, getting back into modeling in awe with all the P E and resin detail parts that are out there and the kits.
I’m also learning new things like down loading photos and posting photos, my computer skill’s and modeling skill’s have improved since I joined this forum. I’ve learned a lot from the members here

I wanted to quote on this thread, But, I Don’t know how to quote more than one reply. See, I don’t know everything either. I too, came back to modeling after a 25 year span. When i started looking at modeling, boy was I surprised. When I was growing up and building models, I thought the modeling companies knew all about their subjects, and they never made mistakes… Boy was I wrong !!!
BTW I am almost caught up to you guy’s I’m 57 now. I never had an airbrush before, but I knew I woiuld need/want one., So I found one on Ebay for about $12 with shipping. Total piece of junk. So then i found one on ebay again and bought it (the best one Testors makes $$$) And I’m learning to use it as I go along. and if I’m not sure about something, I find someone to ask. Like all the guys (and girls) here.
