I finally wrapped this one up his past Friday. I set out on this thinking that it would be an easy change to alter this kit from US to IDF configuration. It turns out that what was envisaged as a quick few weeks build turned into something quite a bit more involved. Part of that was me, increasing the detail on the TOW system and the radios, and of course modifying the stowage of most everything else in the vehicle. From looking at photos, it looks like the IDF modified these jeeps several times over their service lives, and I went with something of a mid life configuration, based upon photos from Lebanon in 1982/83, combining features seen on several different TOW jeeps. I used AK Real Colors for the IDF Sand Gray and Humbrol & Vallejo for most all of the detail work.
Thanks for looking… comments and critiques welcome…
Yes, they were my introduction to modern Tamiya modern armor. I know I’ve built all versions of the kits from the TOW Jeep, to the 2 door with M60 and the softtop with trailer.
I do have the Grenada version, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Rob, I think between the Academy and Tamiya M151 kits, this makes number 8 for me. I havent done a hard top or soft top up for that matter, so I should add those to the list of want to do, along with the Grenada kit. I have a few more in mind to do as well…
Chilly, on the tires I tried something new, using Vallejo glaze and Stone Gray to make sure that I got real good into the tire tread recesses. The rest was all done with airbrushing.
Jake, you are too kind! You know me and getting into the weeds at times…
