IDF M51 Sherman progress.

Funny, thinking back, I can’t remember. There are a lot of ‘details’ I do remember, like Jerry cans being sometimes in black plastic, as opposed to metal green. Or the black grease, which smears everything, and always seems to be a sort of dusty black.

Hi all,

thanks for the comments, feedback and suggestions.

I guess I’ll just take artistic liecence and keep the fittings red. I like the contrast in colors.
Now time to add extra stowage (backpacks, blankets, etc…) to busy it up a little.

thanks again,
Jurgen.

A quick question re stowage on these vechiles.
For back packs, canvas covers, bedrolls… Were the a particular color or a mixture of some green, some tan?

The backpacks, or personal bags rather, were small, canvas, tan. Not always strapped to the tank, sometimes in the ‘baskets’ on the back. Matt. The sleeping bags were a mixture of green and tan. Usually tan, but the occasional green one too. Don’t forget that when view side on, the colour could be different, as you can see the soft interor. Also, they were shiny on the outside, but the interior was matt. Two straps, in a lighter colour, hold it closed. Not unusual for a strap to be undone (when the buckle wasn’t strapped down enough or snapped).

The toolboxes often looked a bit battered. I don’t remember that much wearing on the tanks, so I guess the paint was good. If someone has been driving with their heads out, the faces would be white, except where the goggles stopped the sand, there would be tanned!

Our shirts would often have two white lines down the back, caused by sweat. Not sure why, think it’s salt mixing with the sweat.

The hatches are generally left open, and flak jackets left on them. I remember them as blue for some reason.

thanks Osher.
I’m hoping to have the kit ready for a show on Sunday. Your advice is greatly appreciate.
I’ll try posting some pics once complete.

Jurgen.
