idea to make better looking tires

An idea came to my head while working on the tires of my P-51. Would it be possible to VERY CAREFULLY heat the sides of the tires and then apply some pressure on them to give the look of “hugging” the ground. Not a flat tire, just the look of the weight of the airplane pushing down. Has anyone tried this? You would obviously have to slowly heat the tire and keep the heat source (lighter) quite far away. Is it at all feasible, or will it just ruin things?

I saw is a book (maybe Paine or Verlinden) where you heat a flat screwdriver then press it against the tire to give them a “weighted” look. I have never tried this technique so can’t speak to the results.

I’ve also heard using a clothes iron and wax paper. Put it on low or medium heat, place the waxpaper against it and then the tire. Seems tricky, though.

what i seen was to heat the tire in near boiling water then lightly press it down on the counter to get the look.

HEY,
Thats what ive heard. I would try the boiling water thing, as to not take chances with melting the plastic and such.

I did the pressing the tyres onto a hot knife thing many years ago as a tenage modeller.

If memory serves me, which it doesn’t always, it went OK.
