I have the ICM pe-2 1/72 scale kit. It is covered with a semi-sticky reside which I assume is the mold release. Soap and water didn’t help. Anyone have experience in removing this tacky stuff?
Usually hot soapy water does the trick for ICM goop. Might try some acetone based fingernail polish remover with a cotton swab - try it on an interior wing surface first, something that will not be a problem if there is a nasty reaction.
Darkside…
Sometimes those mold release agents can be a real bear - there’s a number of things I’d try that should work quite well -
-very warm water and dishwashing detergent
-rubbing alcohol - like isopropyl alcohol
-whitewall tire bleach (Bleach-White?)
-Mr. Muscle spray cleaner…
Stay away from turpentines and acetone based products - they’ll probably melt your styrene…
Try any of them - they should work
I had a similar problem with my ICM Spitfire a few years back.
I went to a paint shop and found a citrus oil based cleaner called “Goo Gone” its intended to remove adhesive residue and just about any other sticky substance.
It does leave a bit of an oily film behind, but dish detergent and warm water will remove that film.
I just wiped a bit on the plastic with a clean soft rag and let it sit for a few minutes and then wiped it away with a clean dry rag and rinsed the parts in warm soapy water.
I’m not sure if you can get the product where you are or if it has equivalents under other brand names.
De-natured alcohol wipe down followed by a warm water & detergent scrubbing with an old tooth brush works for me.

I have an ENCORE 1/72 Tu-2 with the same kind of sticky crud on it. I was thinking of trying some of the citrus-based handcleaner we use at the plant. It does a great job on bitumen .
