ICARUS/LIBERTY 1 BUILD (Completed 4-18-21)

Not a Bee … I was trying to get the Voice’s to “SHUT UP” !! ( my Tin-Foil hat wasn’t working…)

… I had too … ( he was armed…)

Just to let you guys know what’s going on in the “asylum” here…

It took me 2 days to get logged in to this site. I “attempted” to block the ad’s and I guess I shot myself in the foot. I had to go through my Java script setting’s , AGAIN, ( remember last year when I had to get a new computer ??? ) and reset a bunch of UNWANTED cookie’s, but now I’m back… HEY, I hear you groaning there in the back. Quiet down ! … or I shall “taunt” you a second time …

I’m torn … he get’s the lady’s … but he’s old and look’s like Skelator…

AND… he’s DEAD !

Should I be offended ? Should I be scared ?

( Do I still get the lady’s regardless ??? )

Lol. Man, this is good stuff. All you guys are bringing it. Keep up the good work.

And Timmy, don’t be neither. In my mind, nothing good comes from bathrobes. Never owned one, never will. Maybe I need bathrobe therapy.

Man! Dr Smith is good! How did he convince Spock into a back rub?

Lol.

Hey Greg. I know how to find polish sausage in my freezer. What does that mean about me?

I realize I am stepping into a meat grinder with that one.

Don’t look now but I think we were just called miscreants. Lol.

Didn’t bother me until you just made me realise I don’t know what ‘miscreant’ means (and I thought my vocabulary was pretty ok), so I looked it up.

Only mildly offensive, no worries at this point. Been called worse.

Put another way, Em arnt fightin’ words.

Was Dr Smith in an original Star Trek episode? How can I possibly not remember that? I thought for sure I know every episode.

And isn’t that his Lost in Space costume anyway???

This is going to take some serious thought.

But in the mean time, for now it means if you add fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, some green beans and most importantly, my beloved sweet and sour cabbage, you have my favorite meal; Polish dinner!

PS, that might be a regional thing so if anyone is confused or offended, that is a wildly popular meal served in my local area for decades at Polish weddings and other get togethers.

On an even more off-topic side note, we also celebrate the Monday after Easter here. It’s called Dyngus day (another Polish tradition). I believe it is an excuse to drink absurd quantities of beer after lent ends but I may have that wrong. My business used to be closed on Dyngus Day as a PAID holiday. It was fun trying to explain that to our aerospace and defense customers, in particular.

Again, this is just to tide you over whilst I ponder a proper, wise- response.

I think the Captain was refering to me with the term ‘miscreant’…

Because ‘He who controls the toilet paper controls the world!!!’

Whomever took that pic of the pickup truck and toilet paper may win a Pulitzer one day.

Or whatever the appropriate prize I’m trying to think of might be.

For sure one of those don’t know whether to laugh or be outraged sort of things. I suppose laughing is lots healthier though.

Laughing. There oght to be a law…

And no. I collaborated with you, so I am a miscreant too! I have no problem with that.

I suppose now is a good time to throw some modeling into this thread. I took off work today for Good Friday, did a little work. BTW. Happy Good Friday everyone!

So, I constructed the first bulkhead.

Below: Making the curves right was interesting. I suppose a smarter modeler might have done things different, maybe measuring with an inside caliper or something. I don’t own one, but probably should. Anyway, you can see in the photo how I made up a template using a piece here and a piece there.

Below: A cockeyed view skewing things even more. My symmetry in construction is not great but for my purposes things are close enough.

Some of you that followed this thread from day 1 may remember when I was vacillating over the engine size on Icarus I. Initially, I purchased a cheap shuttle kit off Ebay just for the engines. After review and debate, it was decided they were too small for the scale. I then ordered a resin version closer to what I needed, but those ended up being a pretty ugly casting. None the less, I planned to use em.

My next step on this is to build the removable firewall. I dug out the shuttle engines and you know, I think they should look pretty good. The engine cluster shown is just for size reference. I won’t be using that whole assembly.

And that is all for now.

That template looks pretty complex.

Yeah–it’s quite the mess. It’s an example of flying by the seat of my pants. Heck–this whole build is. Frankly, I thinks it’s coming out better than I thought it would. This isn’t easy trying to construct an interior using an interior hull that may or may not be symmetrical, or even to scale. All things considered, I am pleased with it.

Two updates in one day? What!

I made some progress on the firewall. I wanted a rigid piece of plastic and I found this in my stash. The vertical detail sort of adds back what I removed when I sanded, but in a different way.

Originally there was a hatch between two engine bells. Having a hatch located there seems kind of lame to me. Since I am not shooting for total accuracy, I am toying with using all three engines to give the beast a blow your face off look. Open to input.

You should be. This is going to come together well.

Go for the 3 engine jazzy look. I’ll help cheerlead.

Thanks Greg. I will see how things look once I start test fitting.
