ICARUS/LIBERTY 1 BUILD (Completed 4-18-21)

I had to… Most hobby store’s dont accept “Bootleg” Greatful Dead tape’s as payment.

( I also had to “Occasionally” buy food.)

Life would be a lot easier if we didn’t have to eat. It makes us work. Speaking of. It’s almost time to slap on my pre-Monday morning glum face.

I HATE MONDAY’S !

You say your going to install Nozzle’s ???

I dont see them on the “Instruction’s” … ???

You mean to say that your going to “Scratchbuild” them ???

Is there a chance he may Succeed ???

If he does … We’re all “Screwed” !

Lol! Awesome… Good job Tim! Lol.

Thanks guys for an interesting read!!!

I didn’t enter the world until late '69…

I vaguly remember the ‘Planet of the Apes’ cartoon show but that’s about it.

I saw first all the movies back in the '90s when the SF Channel (back when it wasn’t gawdawful) ran a ‘Planet of the Apes’ week.

Thanks for chiming in. You know… I had faithfully seen all of those early sequels and each movie was progressively worse. IMO. They made some real stinkers. It didn’t help that the movie studio kept cutting the budget to make them. I have not seen any of the newer ones since the Tim Burton version. I was not a fan of his movie and it ruined me for any of the others that came after. I should probably give them a try.

The Saints might be more geopgraphically apt [:)]

I received the MIM window plastic and it’s the same stuff as in the first kit. You can see that optically it is nothing to write home about. Secondly, it has a severe bend to it. As best as I can tell–I don’t need it warped as such. Here is the worst part. That plastic has an incredible memory to it. You can bend it straight under a strong tension, but it will snap back like nobody’s business. It’d need heat treating, and I am not sure if that would even do it. This is not worth the effort. I will find something much better than this.

I think that I am done with fixing the seats. There is some pitting on the seatbacks that I can’t get at. I doubt it will be that noticeable once painted.

I did use CA to fill and repair some of the goings on with these. It worked fine. My concern was with the hardness of CA and that over-sanding could destroy the surrounding areas. I followed my regular regime of using accelerator, then an aggressive sand grit stick, tapered down to a finer grit. I had no problems.

These are far from perfect; I think close enough. I usually wait to paint until I am closer to assembly. In this case, I will probably paint them sooner than later. In-between that–I will work on sanding the hull. There is a lot of work to do along those lines.

Timmy-- remember how clean my new WB was in the Seaview build? Well–not so much anymore. This build is reaching interstellar space, near to a large black hole. Everything surrounding this build is being sucked into its vortex. Pretty soon my workspace will be the size of a dot. This is gonna be a wild ride man.

I hitch-hiked all over the place following them. I dont really know why… ( I didnt care for most of their music) It was the “Carnival” atmosphere I liked … plus some “other stuff” I cannot mention here.

Who / What are saint’s ? Louisiana Football team ?

That’s what happen’s to me … then I move to the kitchen table ( thus “enraging” the wife.)

I see The saw is Charged.

lol

just curious…

Is the part with the cryo chamber’s solid , or hollow ?

If it’s solid, you have a “L O T” of Resin to remove. You “may” be better off cutting the whole chunk out and scratchbuilding with Plastistruct.

Tim, its solid. And yes. I plan to remove what they molded and build it from scratch. If I can salvage any part of it I will. Maybe the wall at the feet or something. But… I highly doubt any of it will be useable.

I got another stupid question for you…

Does the kit have the “Textured” interior ?

I included the link so you could see the larger picture.

Sorry… that link is longer than my Tax form’s.

I had a thought about the pitting on the seatbacks. Can you think of anything I could paint on that would fill those deformities and leave a smooth finish? I thought maybe something like white glue might work? Any thoughts on this?

Yes. The floor and the ceiling is. It looks pretty decent too. It cuts both ways though. In order to save that texture it will limit my ability to run wires around. Why do you ask? Any reason?

I found a “Trick” that will give you the “look” of texture, but isn’t really textured.

Someone on this forum used “Panty hose” to duplicate the heat tile’s on the space shuttle he was building. Looked very convincing.

Interesting thought. I’ll store that for if needed.
