IAF Beaufighter

Here is my latest creation, an IAF Bristol Beaufighter. Made from the Tamiya Tf Mk. X kit with Isradecal decals. The kit was was very nice except for the exhaust, as the exhaust was made up of two parts the seem was between the small outlets and almost impossible to remove. So I ordered a set of quickboost exhausts.

Painted with vallejo and xtracrylix acrylic paints.

Scale is 1/48th.

looks pretty cool. Are the stabilizers supposed to be canted at such an angle? IT almost looks like too much…

OWL

Looks good from here Michael. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

very clean build nicely done Micheal!

Good job!

Very nicely done sir!! How did you like the extracrylix paints? Been thinking about trying them out.

Very nice build, well done. You should add another light or two to the booth.

nice job on the “Whispering Death”!

Impressive work, I really like the paint job and alignment.

Did the IAF see combat with those bad boys?

[:D[ Well done!

I love the Med collours on it. I have the Tamiya 1/48 Mk 6 that I will build next. (basically the same kit I recon ?) Any big things to look out for in the build? Except fot the elev trim tab actuators that should be on the bottom of the elevators I have been told.

I am leaning towards the Night Figter RAF scheeme. An all black plane looks realy “BAD”

Very well done, and an interesting camo/marking choice. And yes, Owl, those stabilizers do keep that angle. I built one a few years ago - checked and re-checked all the sources just to make sure…

Thanx for the comments.

They where very good after I started using drying retarder. I used vallejos retarder. Without retarder i dries on the needle almost instantly. I also use xtracrylix own thinner.

Yes, four planes where used and at least 1 was shoot down by egyptia flak. They where only used in 1948/49.

At least two  I think that elevating the model in the photobooth will help to spread som light on the underside. The booth is a little on the small side for this plane.

Michael

Glad you liked it.

The kit is basically the same. The diffrence is that the Mk X kit komes with additional sprue for the extended fin and torpedo.

The next beaufighter I’ll make is also the black nightfighter, it has somthing special in its appearance.

Michael

ah, thanks. I guess I’m not used to seeing stabilizers at such funny angles! [t$t]

I know, they look really odd. Makes me wonder what the reasoning was!

IAF Beaufighters flew a number of sorties during fighting in the last half of October 1948 until a Un truce was renewed. According to official IAF history 2202 took part in five sorties against Egyptian targets during December 5-17 1948. This is rather dubious as 2202 only recorded 3 hr 30 min flying time during Deember 1948 an there was also atruce in force until Israel launched a winter offensive on December 22 when Israel’s last Beaufighter flew its final two sorties. The first was the bombing of El Arish on December 24. The second was a ground strike on Egyptian troops in the Auja sector on the morning December 26.

In the period October 15 until December 26 1948 there were nine known sorties dropping over 2.5 tons of bombs.
