I missed the KURSK group build

I guess I missed the KURSK group build. The builds on this group build are fantastic. Every one of them…beautiful!

I was inspired and had hoped that I wasn’t too late to throw my little tank into the group but it seemed like the thread is done so, here’s my late entry.

It’s DRAGONS Pz III M mostly out of the box. I replaced the tracks with FRIULS and made tow cables and used an old ON THE MARK Pz III p.e. set. The turret armor and brackets are stock but I thinned them down very carefully for a more in scale look. I also cast a split hatched coupola from a white metal one that I got from a GUNZE Pz III kit. The storage rack and gear were also added.

It was painted with mostly HUMBROL paints. I used TAMIYA for the green. I only lightly weathered it since the battle hadn’t yet started . I’d planned a commander figure but got disrtacted before I could make a guy to fit. Somethin’ still to do …maybe later.

Thanks to all for the inspiration.

That’s a beautiful Panzer III. Really love the paint and tracks. I’m sorry you missed it, it’s been going on since July. We would have loved this entry too. Keep checking for future GB’s. There is a Western Desert GB going on right now. Perhaps you can get into it. Check the GB Forum.

Thanks TIGERMAN.

I will definitely check out the WESTERN DESERT gb. I think I’ve got a good one for that.

Wow, man! I’ve got nuthin’ but GOOD things to say about this build! A really gorgeous Pz III! Great paint, nice stowage, and perfect, understated weathering.

I’m just really surprised you only have two comments thus far!? [%-)] Usually work this well done gets a lot mor! C’mon guys–give the man his due!

It’s very realistic.

Spectacular! Too bad you missed that GB…it was a good one. [:D]

You should definitely check out the War In The Desert GB (started on Sunday) as well as the Winter Warriors GB, which gets rolling on the first of January.

Hope to see more good work! [tup][tup]

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I guess that I haven’t gotten the tempo or the groove of the forum yet. I’ll eventually get it.

At this time in my miodelling life I’m diggin’ out old builds and dusting them off, patching them up and photographing them again since the first pics are all on film or slides. Some of these models have only been seen by me, my wife and a good friend that lives 45mins. away whom I don’t see often enough. There’s no hobby shop to speak of or any modelling groups around here so, I work in solitude and isolation. I guess maybe I should start a LONELY OLD GUYS BUILD thread.

I’ve got many projects still to do in various states of completion . Some have sat for a few years almost done. I wonder if I finish those, would they be considered a new builds?

Anyway, once again thanks for your generosity and I hope to post some new and new/old builds in the future.

your EXCELLENT photography really shows off your equally excellent build[tup][tup]-- sorry you missed the build[:(]—we could’ve used another target[(-D]–J/K dude —great job–tread[8D]

Thats a beautiful Panzer![tup] I love the paint job and thwe stowage. Tracks came out nice too.

I also missed the group build, I know how you feel.

[(-D] If you do I’ll be the first to join!!

Yep, your Mark III would have been a great addition to the Kursk GB!! Too bad you found out too late, but as the others have stated, there are other great GBs that are just starting or haven’t started yet (like the Winter Warriors GB). If you’re into German armor its not too late to join the Panzer Aces GB…I think its over in Spring 2008. I’m sure Scott and Hermes will let you join! Thanks for the post and photos and keep those builds coming!!

Beautiful panzer III !!! I have this one in the stash and almost used it for the Kursk build also. Did you have any issues with the build? Again, very, very NICE panzer III!!![:D]

Thank you very much.

I really liked this kit. There weren’t any insurmountable issues. There were mainly personal taste choices eg. replacing the tracks and coupola. The kit coupola had the visors molded closed and , I think, the hatch was one piece so I replaced that. The turret armor was a bit too thick and a little tricky to construct and I made it a bit more difficult by thinning the brackets and armor plates. Overall the kit goes together very well and with some creative additions it builds into a very nice tank model. Another plus are all the extra parts that can be used someday for something. The Pz III is one of my favorite German tanks. I’d like to do another one sometime soon. Maybe after the holidays…

I recommend Tamiya’s Panzer III L. Beautiful kit, easy to build too. Of course after seeing DML’s Panzer III J with more bells-and-whistles, that might be a better option.
