Hi. I am new here, and as u probably assumed my favorite plane is Flanker SU-37[:D][8D]
Ok, so anyways i got my models delivered
Those are: SU-47 Berkut (aka S-37), SU-37, MIG-29 and MIG-31
My questions is about SU-47:
Do i need to paint it in black color? I am saying that it is already black and i dont know if i should paint it, i am afraid i will ruin it.
If i will paint it, it will probably be by using flat black spray either from testors or from model master
Now another questions is: how do you paint the camouflage scheme?
Do you first paint it in the base color like lets say yellow and then when its all dry, you paint it in black dots?
If its confusing, i am talking about this:
Would you first paint it in that yellowish color and then apply brown camouflage or what help me plzzzzzzzzzz
I would definitely paint the black color. I just don’t think it would particularly look good in terms of texture. This is not difficult, just listen to what others on the board will suggest.
Welcome to the forum, SU-37! Hope you enjoy your time with us.
I would definately prime it black. This does two major things. First, it helps get rid of any of the irregularities in the plastic such as swirls and stuff, plus it gives a good adhering surface for the paint. As for which of the camo colors to paint first, go with yellow. As a rule of thumb, always paint the lighter colors first. It’s much easier to cover up yellow with black than the other way around.
Welcome to the forum, SU-37.
Painting the black color will allow you to eliminate the seams between the main components, by filling (if necessary) and sanding before you paint. If you choose to use flat black spray, you may have problems applying the decals, as they stick better to a gloss surface. You can “paint” some Future (there are MANY articles on the use of this product in the techniques pages) where the decals will go. They can then be sprayed with a flat coat (after 24 hours or so) to seal them & hide the decal film. This will give you a consistent finish.
For painting the camo, it is easier to cover a light color with a darker one. If you don’t have an airbrush, I would suggest using spray. Paint the lighter color first. After the paint has cured (24-48 hours), you can cut masks from a low tack (less “sticky”) tape to cover the areas that will remain the lighter color. Then apply the darker color. Remove the masks after the paint is dry to the touch (one hour or so). This will lessen the chances of building up a “ridge” of paint at the edge. Apply the Future/decals/flatcoat to finish.
This is a general overview. More detailed info may be found in the techniques, painting & finishing, etc. pages.
Good luck & have fun !
Congradulations and welcome. These guys have pretty much covered your questions so I’ll just sit back and wait for the pictures. There will be pictures won’t there?
