I am 78 years old and bought my first plastic kit when I was about ten years old. It was a 1/72 Spifire From Airfix.
Since then I have built all sorts of things, so many I can hardly remember any of them.
I read lots of sites like this one and I am frankly amazed at what I see some times. No more so than what I have seen in this topic about HMS Victory.
I this it is remarkabe. The builders knowledge is inspiring sine I dont want to build my sailing ships at a lowere standard than this.
I am building Revell’s 1/96th USS Kearsage at the moment.
I have a ‘Formlabs’ resin 3D printer and I will use it wherever its needed.
I have bought a wooden deck for it that looks really cool but have not quite got that far yet.
I’ll keep you all informed because I know it’s a popular kit.
Adrian
Just to appologise for all the typo’s. Its a new keyboard and has a very different feel to it.
Hey all are welcome here at FSM
Welcome to the forum Adrian! Glad to have you here. I’m looking forward to seeing your models!
Welcome! Looking forward to seeing some of your work.
Welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing some of your builds!
Welcome, Adrian!
It sounds to me like after nearly 70 years of building models, you’ll have plenty to contribute around here.
I’m looking forward to seeing your Kearsarge as it comes together.
I’m also very interested in the fact that you’re using a Formlabs resin printer in your modeling. I’m just starting to explore 3D printing myself and have already discovered how many possibilities it opens up, especially for things that simply aren’t available as kit parts or aftermarket.
Please do start a build thread on the Kearsarge. Between the wooden deck, the 3D-printed additions and all those years of modeling experience, I think that’s going to be an interesting one to follow.
And don’t worry about the typos. If they threw people off the forum for those, I’d have been gone a long time ago. ![]()
Welcome aboard!

This is a great place to get ideas and learn techniques and solve problems. Welcome.
