I can pull my resin vat apart again and take the fasteners to the hardware store and figure out what to buy, but I was hoping someone might have the information for me if I ask.
I am looking for what size the 3 screw sizes are under the vat that hold the FEP film in place. There are 4 larger corner screws. There are a round of medium sized screws, and then there is a round of smaller screws.
I have replaced the FEP film 3 times and the hexes in the screws are already starting to round out. Partially because of cheap hardware, and partially because of the cheap allen wrenches I am using.
I want to know the screw sizes so I can upgrade to TORX fasteners.
I don’t know the exact sizing but most big box hardware stores have thread gauge plates that you can use to determine the size and thread count of the screw. Just bring the screws you want and test them in the store. Then it’s just select the length and screw head type you want. Amazon also sells thread gauges if you wish to determine it from the comfort of home.
The little guys that bolt the two FEP plates together are flathead M3 screws that are 5mm long.
The medium screws that fasten the FEP frame to the bottom of the vat are flathead M4 screws that are 12mm long.
And then there is a large cap head screw at each corner. those are M4 x 10mm long. I don’t think this information is correct because I think these 4 screws are larger than the medium screws listed above. I need to confim this one.
As far as thread pitch goes, they didn’t tell me. But they are standard pitch. Meaning you don’t have to buy fine threadded screws, just get the regular ones…
Great info, thanks for sharing. I suspect I’m approaching time to change my FEP and I like your idea of switching to Torx bits. Did you find the right sizes in Torx?
@ctruss53: Good work figuring that all out, I’ve the Saturn and it is slightly less convoluted. think there are only 2 different sized screws, all the same there has got to be a better way to attach the FEP, I end up using mine longer than I should just because changing it is such a pain.
I would be more inclined to recommend Elegoo if they supported their printers longer with replacement parts. My OG Saturn’s UV screen is failing and they no longer sell replacements. It was a great machine while it lasted so there is that…
The power board failed on my Mars 4 after 18 months and only about 40 hours of printing.
I feel they should have covered the part because of how little the printer has been used. But they made me purchase it. Fortunately it was only $3 plus shipping from China.
