I forgot to introduce myself

Sorry about that. I am new here to this sight but have read the magazine for years. I build mostly WW II aircraft and armor. I have been building off and on since I was a kid but just now at 34 really taking it seriously and paying attention to detail. I am still learning alot of the techniques. My biggest problem areas are weathering to make them look more realistic and making the decals look painted on. If anyone is willing to make some suggestions or lend me a hand in any way, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Hello! and [#welcome] psufan74! (is that Paterno State University?)[(-D]

You can also introduce yourself in the Welcome forum under General Discussion. Many will welcome you and answer questions.

The forums are well marked and you’ll have the hang of where to ask your querys very soon!

Don’t be afraid to post what you might think is an often asked question! We all do it continually!

[#welcome] to the forums psufan74! This is a great place to ask questions and get some really good info. Be sure to post pics of your builds too. People will give you advice and help you become a better modeler. This is definitely a great site for modeling.

Welcome Aboard Just hop on it’s a fun ride

Don’t know what problems your having but you may need to be more specific as to what the problems are. Like are your decals not laying down or are they silvering and what kind of surfice are you putting them on Gloss or Flat. Also can you post photos of the problems. There’s tons of information on the web but you need to take your time and see what works best for you. Just remember to have some fun along the way.

I have only been active here for a month or so and let me tell you I have learned more in a month about modeling than I would have alone in a year without this group of people. Dont be afraid to ask any modeling question here, believe me I have asked some LOL dumb ones and got very helpful answers back. And please do post pictures of your work you will be suprised at the help you will get. So jump right in and have a blast.

Welcome to the forum, mate.
I’ve seen lots of great work here…not all that many online weathering “how to’s” - mostly the extended versions are in the FSM mag. But there’s also some pretty good weathering how-to’s in the armor section of this forum.
Recently, a guy named Chuck W completed a 1/48th Helldiver - he started and finished a thread that detailed the entire build (and scratchbuilding of many bits) of a 1/48th Helldiver…included in the build are many, many photos and explanations of the weathering processes he went through. Chuk did a pretty darned good job - have a look at:

/forums/970766/ShowPost.aspx

It’s a long thread - 43 pages…but most assuredly worth every minute (or hour) that it’ll take to go through the thread. Pay particular attention to the “Dot” feathering using oils.

Welocome to the newbs… you have come to the right place to learn some great stuff.

And welcome back Bud. I have been in the armor forum so much I missed your return. Good to see you.

[#welcome] aboard!

Saw your new post over in the welcome section, but thought I would welcome you here as well.

As has been stated, there are not a lot of dedicated weathering tutorials for aircraft here, but occasionally someone posts a new technique they discovered/uncovered. Generally, if you see something you like displayed here, just ask how they did it. Everyone here that I have seen is more than happy to share their methods. Again, welcome and I hope to see your work soon! [tup]
