I done did it

I made my first custom decals

1/48 scale instrument faces. Not exactly Mike Grant but now I can practice to get better (not to mention he uses an Alps which I dont have)

I am very happy with this.

That’s cool. What kind of program are you using? I wouldn’t mind trying it, but have know idea how to even get started.

Well congratulations Jeff!!

Good stuff, perhaps you can post your work for us to view.

Post a pic…let’s take a look.

Jerry

Post a pic and tell us how you did it.

Kurt

I am using a HP 1210 set at its highest resolution, its not too bad… you can make out everything.

I so happen to have a new digital camera expected today. Not sure how well I can pic my decals but I will do my best when I can get the pics.

The faces were scanned in (no worries no copyright stuff here that I know of) and edited in Hp’s Photo and Imaging software and dinked there then put into Power point where I aranged them by “hand” and set up the printing size and everything.

I think I will redraw the instruments by hand and rescan them ( this HP has an AWESOME scanner on it) so I can get it all even cleaner.

I am not exactly gonna put Mike grant outta business but since Swanny bought up all the Reheat’s Instrument Decals I felt I had no choice [:D]

Jeff

Sounds good Jeff, it is something that I’ve wanted to try myself for a while-any chance of some pics to see how they turned out?

regards,

Darren.

yeah once the camera arrives today i will.

Jeff

Great work, looking forward to the pictures.

Very cool Jeff. Nice work.

Well, I’m a complete amatuer to modelling, but I’m slowly testing the waters. What sort of paper do you need and what program is recommended to create custom decals? I have a printer/scanner, so this has me curious about the possibilities.

Awesome… I want to learn how to make my own decals… specially for German aircraft… but is there any printer that actually prints white color?..

Necro I use HP photo imaging that came with my hp and powerpoint

Zeroenna The out of production Alps does

Hiya Jeff,
Do you have any pix of your instrument face decals. Would like to have a look see. DUH, just look above… LMAO…[:p][:p][;)] Nice lookin!!
Flaps up, Mike

Hmm, I don’t have Powerpoint, but I do have some other editing tools. What sort of stock (paper) did you use?

I used Testor decal paper and wasnt that thrill with it… sounded like it was gonna jam any second going through my printer. I suppose any good glossy paper will do.

MicroMark also has decal paper that I have heard really good things about.

Thanks for the tip. If I use a glossy stock, how will I get the decal to transfer over to the model? Would it separate as if it were on decal paper?

heres some dig pics

First is from chopped photos through my HP program then put on powerpoint… these are pretty big

second is from the pic I posted earlier
