I am am on the verge of committing a crime of violence...

…due to my apparently fathomless computer ignorance. I finally got some decent photos of a few of my builds My good friend, magazine collaborator, and, as it turned after we exchanged emails from this site, my practically with innext-doir neighbor, namely, Bud or as he’s known around here, Wibhi2, shot them.
Well, since 2 p.m. this afternoon I’ve been on the test site trying to learn how to download these bad boys (and I certainly leave it to you guys to judge just how bad my boys are, or maybe a little good my boys are for all I know( …as you can tell from this post my brain has turned to mush. I give up. All I see before my eyes right now is a tiny red x rather than a photo. Until a midracle happens, I give up.
TOM

Where are you hosting the pics? Try www.photobucket.com, it’s free. All you do is upload the pictures from your PC to photobucket and then use the URL address of the pic you want to see and and it to your post. rust me I’m no computer wiz and I found it quite easy.

Hope it helps,

Dan

Well, that what my problem seems to be. I don’t know how to tell what the URL address of my photo is. All I have is my personal file name in my computer.
I know we’re not supposed to be doing this on the aviation site, but at this point I’m beyong caring.
And thanks, Dan, for the kind reply.

Tom…

Once you upload the desired photos to Photobucket, there should be a directory that displays the photos in your account. Click to view one of the pictures, then Right-Click inside that image and select “Properties” from the drop down menu… copy the URL.

Take care,

Tom,

I feel your pain man. I had a similar experience when I first started attempting picture posting. It still takes me a heck of alot more time than I wish. I wish you the best.

Chris

Just further to what oldhooker has said, once the pic is on photobucket you can see beneath each picture preview there are 3 boxes of text underneath, Url, Tag and Img. Left click once inside the box labelled Img and it should turn blue. Now right click once (still in the Img box) and from the drop down menu select ‘copy’. Now just head back to the forum and right click and ‘paste’ this into the post where you want to show your pics. Hope this helps, Dan.

Tom, I took a peek at your test post. It appears you’re trying to use the rongeorge site. That’s OK, but you must first upload your pics onto the rongeorge site. Once your pics are uploaded, you can L click on the pic to get the large version, then R click for a menu, go to properties & find the URL. Copy that URL EXACTLY into the FSM pic post code & all should be well.

Regards, Rick

Hey Tom,

It took me a few tries, too. Repeating what the other guys have said:

  1. upload the images from your computer to photobucket using the browse option to locate the file containing your shots (your photos have probably been stored in “My Pictures” by default if using Windows).

  2. The name you choose to give each picture while in Photobucket is NOT the url. That was [i][my/i] mistake.

  3. Instead, after uploading to Photobucket , the photos are displayed in an album for you down at the bottom of the page. Below each photo, you’ll see a box that says URL. You can highlight the text in that box and select copy. (It will have a .jpg suffix).

  4. Back in the Finescale website, start a new topic as always. When you want to insert your picture, click on the 4th icon from the left where it says “Format:”
Something like this will appear: [img] [ /img]

  5. Paste the url from photobucket between the two image boxes, so you’ll have something like: [img]TOM’S PICS [ /img]. When you hit “Post New Reply”, lo and behold, your pics are there.

I hope this is helpful and not over-explained. Take care,

Mark

OK, you guys have given me new confidence, and now I’m going to have at it once again. However, after all this buildup, and the fact that I’ve posted 1,700 times without a single photo, I’m afraid the product can’t possibly live up to the buildup.
However, the only way I’m going to stop making the same mistakes I keep making from one build to the next is post photos and ask for criticism. And I have thick skin, guys, so don’t worry about offending me. Now, let’s see if I can do this thing.
TOM

hey Tom,
If it wasnt for my lovely wife showing me three hundred times how to do the whole process, I wouldn’t be able to post pics either. Dont give up man, you can figure it out if I did.

jim

Don’t give up, Tom.

If you’re still stuck, send me an email and I’ll try to help you out.
