Hypodermic Needles....

Where do you guys find these?? I would like to use them for the 4 .50 calibers on my 1:48 Mustang-- and would like to know where to find them…err-- and how to cut them?? Thanks!

As far as finding them well…I get some from my wife’s work. But what I dont get from there I usually order from Moore Medical Supply which can be found here: http://www.mooremedical.com find the link for free catalog, they’ll send you a nice 450 page catalog full of stuff…some of it useful for the hobby some of it useless.

Go to www.smallparts.com. Their selection of hypodermic tubing is incredible. There is a minimum purchase, however. You can get tubing in all diameters and guages.

The best way to cut the tubing is with Dremel (or other similar rotary tool) and a cut-off wheel.

You can probably go to just about any pharmacy and get needles, if you are in a hurry. I like to use tubing from a company called Small parts. Their e-mail is a couple of posts down in ‘gun tubing’. As for cutting, I use my Dremel with a cut off wheel. I have a stand for it, and I hold the barrel length with some pliers. I hold the other side as far from the wheel as I can with my fingers.

Next time you are getting a checkup, or taking your pet for one, ask the Doc or Vet. I also get neat tools from them and the dentist.
Cut the tubing with a Dremel (remember the safety glasses).

These are some of the most INCREDIBLE 1/48 50cal. guns I have ever seen

Thanks guys!!! They are for the P-51C so you won’t see the barrels…just the front edge…but you are right Pix-- those are quite nice!

I buy most of my hypos and some assorted small tools at farm supply stores in the animal health department. Tractor Supply is a good place because they also sell hardware that I haven’t seen in other stores. I’ve also bought metal stock there. They sell aluminim, copper and brass sheet also.

Found some at my local pharmacy, but didn’t realize there were so many sizes…which diameter is best for .50 caliber machine guns??? Thanks in advance…

You can find them at local pharmacies. Gauge 18 would be just about right for 1/48 .50 cal. machine guns. I use a plier-like cutter to cut the needle in the required length. Grip the needle with cutter and rotate the needle until it separate in two. This will give a rounded end and this will also prevent the needle opening from being flattened.

Excellent…thanks nkm…I’ll go pick them up today. Here in NY, there is a limit of 10 needles that you can buy at a pharmacy without a prescription…weird, eh?

Well…the closest they have at the pharmacy is 21 gauge…I looked at mooremedical and they only seemed to have them in boxes of 100!! I only need a few [:)]

smallparts.com seems to no longer be a site-- all I get is this web design site…

I will try my nearby farm supply store…I have been needing to get there to grab a file for my chainsaw anyways!

Try hospital pharmacies. They usually carry all sizes for good measure you know.

I found an easier (and less dangerous [;)] alternative)-- I found some aluminum tubing at the local R/C place that fits perfectly into the space…and they look pretty good too. Thanks for all the help guys!
