Can anyone tell me if this was operational or just a prototype. Thanks in anticipation.
It was a prototype that was not accepted by the US. The prototype was eventually reconfigured to a standard HMMWV. The Tamiya Bushmaster HMMWV was actually made by Italeri and was identical to the older issues of Italeri HMMWVs (Italeri retooled the body at least twice).
Here’s a review on the Italeri/Revell/Tamiya HMMWVI did several years ago.

Rob,
Thanks for the quick reply and link, it answers all the questions I had, especially the stinger variant which I was unsure about and explains why I had difficulty finding any Bushmaster references.
Mucho gracias, Rob! LOL That site is great, too! Got it bookmarked![:D]
At the same time the Army was testing the Bushmaster on the HMMWV, they also tried it out on the Fast Attack Vehicle … the short-lived dune buggy on steroids. Of course, the big autocannon literally pulled the tubular dune buggy frame apart from it’s massive recoil. The Hummer fared only slightly better and could only be fired from flat ground or it would flip over when the gun went off at angles to either side.
I was there.
