I am about to embark on my first project in a long time (1/48 Academy MiG-29UB Fulcrum). I have decided to build a Polish version of this aircraft and needed help with the colour conversion. I need to find out the equivilant of Humbrol 127, 128, and 125 in the Tamita paint range…Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone has built the Polish version lately, and think those colours are wrong. Then I am happy to hear from anyone with suggestions as to what I should use… This is the aircraft I would like to represent…
Most Tamiya colors have to be mixed to match Humbrol paints…In general, there are no direct 1:1 correspondence. That said, According to a few different web sites, Hu 128 is the same color as XF-53, but requires a semigloss coat to match exactly. The FS# for Hu 128 is 26320, which is Dark Ghost Gray.
I am no expert on Polish anything, especially not jets, but I did find some color info for you. If you look here, the colors you have are right…
Also, there are some good airshow pictures of other Polish MiG-29UBs in the same color scheme here.
Tamiya have :
Dark Ghost Grey - AS-25
Light Ghost Grey - AS-26
Dark Grey - XF-24 [No metion if this is the US version of Dark Grey though]
Compass Grey - XF-53 with a coat of Satin varnish as previously mentioned.
If you are going for a Polish scheme I’d think these would all be ok, just give it a good beat up Cold War weathering and no one will really notice if they are a few shades off. [:)]
Good luck with the build,
Mick C.
Its nice to get that feeling in the belly to build again. And for me, a lot of the fun is actually talking to all you guys and getting hints, tips and ideas… Thats the best part!
