Here’s a CzechMaster resin 1/72 Hughes H1 Racer. Bought from Hannants. A spendy bugger. No end of pain with this model. First off like a dummy I soaked it in acetone to clean the castings, destroying or warping many pieces. Then much fitting and fiddling for the wing roots and tailplanes.
I LOVE this aircraft, but not thrilled with the kit. On the plus side, you get both complete versions, long-wing and short wing, and basic shapes and proportions seem right on. Instructions are good, and come with photos of the 1:1 aircraft in the Smithsonian. On the downside, the fitting of the tailplanes and wings were a pain, the fuselage sides didn’t register up correctly, and it cries out for some PE for the engine detailing.
The most fun here was using BMF for the fuselage; the seams look pretty good I think. Rudder and tailplanes hand painted with Testors Silver Argent #1146; wings rattle canned Tamiya #TS-15 Blue. OAL approx 4.5"; wingspan approx 5.125".
This historically important aircraft cries out for someone like Tamiya to do it proud in injection plastic in 1/72 or 1/48. I am surprised the Williams Brothers never did it while the company was alive.
Off airplanes for a while. On to the kitbash of the A140A Yamato precursor, and a kitbash of the Russian Black Eagle MBT.
