Hughes 500D rotor detail

I’ve been looking for close-up pics of the base of the rotor (sorry not sure what it’s called) for a Hughes/MD 500D, without much success. Can anyone suggest where to look? Thanks.

just look at picture of a UH-6 Cayuse helicopter it is the military version of the MD-500 so they would have the same rotor details and I have the MD-500 kit but am converting it to the UH-6

You are looking for pictures of the rotor head, the areas just below the head itself is called the swash-plate (2 parts), and below that is the Main Rotor Gear Box. (MRGB).

OH-6A are equal to Hughes 369 and MD500C models, 4 main rotor blades, the D and E models have the 5 bladed version. Would imagine that the MH-6 and newer versions have the later 5 bladed systems, with 4 bladed tail rotors like the Apache.

Isnt there a version of the UH-6/Md500 series helicopters that have a system that replaces the tail rotor

Yes, it is called NOTAR. IIRC, it is based off of the MD530 series.

Here is what the NOTAR looks like:

and how it works:

It looks like it would be apretty easy conversion to do.

Thanks guys, that will expand my choice of references.

NOTAR was the system used in the Comanche prototype

Nope, the RAH-66 Commanche used an enclosed tail rotar system simmilar to he type on a HH-65 Dauphin Helo.

The Testors “Stingbat LHX”, one of the concept designs for what became the Comanche, had a NOTAR system. Anyone built this kit? I kinda got turned off by the curved rotor blades, which wouldn’t work in reality, so I never got one. Plus, I thought the name was kinda dorky [;)]

Hi Jon,
Here’s a link with some build-up pics of the Stingbat. You’re right, that thing is F’UGLY!
