Hi everybody
I just brought a tamiya S.A.S land rover pink panther and in the instructions it shows that in the rear deck it’s made of wood.My question is it made of wood and if so how do I make it?
Thanks in advance

I think everything in that kit is made of plastic. Alot of modeling is “smoke and mirrors”. All you have to do is make it look like it is made out of wood. Painting a dark sand color followed by a darker wash will work fine if the woodgrain is molded into the plastic.
You might try running some 60 or 80 grit sandpaper along it in one direction to give it a grain pattern. Follow up with some wet 220 or so to smooth it off. Then paint/wash as above and follow up with some creative drybrushing. You may want to try this whole thing out on some scrap piece before the kit part. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Hi
Thanks for the info I-beam and StevenQ I’ll be trying it very soon but I won’t be show you guys how it turns out because I don’t a digital camera
thanks again
Blake
if you want a varnished/glossy wood effect try the following:
1 first a layer of gey/green/brown, depending how dark the wood should be
2 a layer of tamiya clear orange
et voila, wood!
may I ask you how much of each color or equal amounts thank you
Ronald
If the wood grain is NOT molded into the plastic, get yourself a clean feather and ‘style’ the paint, just barely touch the surface to swirl the dark & light paint. Practice! Practice! Practice!
Huxy did a pretty good tute on painting plastic to look like wood…
