How to remove Adblock

Several weeks ago I installed Adblock when the forums were having a bunch of popup ads. I am having troubles with it and am trying to remove it without luck.

The program seems to require re-installation every two weeks or so. When I get that warning I cannot do anything until I respond. And I keep getting a popup to buy the for pay version. This ad pops up on every new page! This is worse than the popup ads I was trying to get away from!

Typically, you can go to the list of programs on your machine under ‘add/uninstall programs’ on your control panel (assuming it’s Windows…don’t have any experience with Apple). Click uninstall next to the program in the list, and hope for the best.

If that doesn’t do it, there are more dedicated answers that can be Googled.

In my case, I really liked the benefits I was getting from their product during the trial period, so I paid them the nominal fee they were asking for their services. Everything has been great ever since. If you don’t think the benefits are worth it, you can remove the plugin from your browser.

My 2 cents, uninstall whatever you have, install uBlock Origin.

FWIW, I’ve never paid for an adblocker nor have I every had one beg for money or stop working.

Unfortunately, it does not appear on the list. I even went to the startup menu, and it does not appear there either!

Don, it occurs to me that, whatever browser you’re using, you might go into that and check under extensions. Some apps attach themselves in the browser rather than in the OS.

What’s your platform If I want to get rid of a program on Android,I just press and hold the App down until a box appears that says uninstall, hit the button again,it’s deleted.

On Windows,I just hold the App down till it starts shaking,it asks about deleting, I say yes it’s gone.

Most adblockers are browser add-ons or extensions, Don. If I’m understanding the situation right…

…try pulling down the “hamburger” icon at the top right of your firefox GUI, click “Add-ons and themes”, see if it’s listed there. If it is, best to click the “…” drop down and remove the add-on or extension.

If it’s not there, let us know.

For Chrome click on the three stacked dots at the upper right, hover over more tools and select extentions from the sub menu. Look for AdBlock and click remove.

Wow! Just added uBlock Origin and all the ads on FSM disappeared. Thanks for the tip!

I went to the App Store location on my phone and got the free version that works super. You must have clicked on a purchase version.
Go to your settings and locate the program and delete it. Go to the App Store and look for the FREE version. I installed it in my phone and tablet a long while back and works great.

Yup. You can also click on the little jigsaw-puzzle-piece-looking thingie 2 to the left of the stacked dots and that pulls up all of your extensions.

Hey Greg - are you on a Mac? I dont see UBlock in the App store. Tks

Hi MM,

Nope, I am running Firefox on a PC.

If you are running a browser on a PC, you will find browser ad-ons and extensions in your browser settings.

On an android phone, they will also be in the browser settings.

If there are stand-alone ad-blockers, I’m sorry, I am not familiar with them. And I’m afraid I am Apple/Mac illiterate.

I hope I don’t get myself banned for recommending an ad-blocker, I meant no harm.

Yep, looked there too.

I’ve never paid for Adblock. I might have donated a buck or two, but that’s about it. I dont recall getting any pop-ups, except during installation when it asked if I would like to donate. I’ve never had any problems with it either.

Are you sure it’s an original Adblock download and not a fake? Might want to read this article: https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/17593-adblocker-update-pop-up-scam-mac

Good luck.

That’s been my concern over the course of this thread as well.

Like you, I’ve used AdBlocker in the past a few times, also never had any of the problems Don mentioned.

Adblock and Adblocker are two different programs from different places. After so many days (can’t remember how many), I would get a second tab that would open up on my browser, asking for a donation for Adblock. I gave them a donation (which I think was about 3 bucks), and it has never bothered me again on any of my devices. Paid through Paypal, and there have never been any attempts at taking more than what I authorized. It does exactly what its supposed to do, and the aggravation it has saved me (especially on this forum, with its intrusive, crippling ads) has been well worth that 3 bucks.

Okay, I was finally able to remove it from my browser tools menu. Now I am suffering from an overwhelming number of ads[8o|] A new problem is that some of the ads prevent me from typing anything until I respond to the ad.

So I’m looking for recommendation for aps that work well and do not flood me with a deluge of their own advertising. The one I was using actually put an ad on every new web page I went to!

I would just go directly to the Adblock site to download. That where I got it and have never had a problem. Good luck!
