How to re-affix a decal

I recently put a wing decal on that after dry the next day, the corner didn’t affix and has a little flap that comes up off the wing if you pull it up. Is there a way to glue that corner of the decal back down once it has fully dried?

There’s a few ways to fix this

  • very thin white glue
  • Future
  • Gunze Mr Mark Setter.

I would gently brush on some decal solvent, both under the loose corner and on top of the entire decal. Then don’t touch it until the next day.

I (accidently) found out that you can shift an entire decal AFTER it was dry by soaking it in setting solution. I guess it would work with a fold as well.

I second the use of diluted white glue.

Did you use any decal setting solution like Solvaset? This stuff will melt the decal down as if it was painted. Future will work too but you need to shoot some clear flat to kill the gloss once it dries.

Thanks for the good responses. I bought some decal solvent and used that and it seems to have done the trick.

I’ve never used Solvaset or the like. A guy in a local hobby shop explained that process to me and it sounds interesting. My fear would be if I mess up after building the whole model all that effort would go to waste

There are several brands of decal solvents, but Solvaset is the most powerful. I would try one of the other brands first.

Also, be careful not to confuse decal solvent with decal setting solution. They are different. Setting solutions are considerably weaker than solvents. Use setting solutions first. In fact, the setting solution can be used regularly as a step in applying decals. Only use solvents with problem decals.
