I’m a new modeler here, from Mexico, so its really hard for me to get good tools.
I just got an F-14 1/48 from revell, and it comes with raised panel lines… and i don’t have any ide on how to paint it…
I will apreciate any ideas.

If you are trying to achieve the look that painted/weathered recessed panels lines would have, you could try, after painting and all, using a thin pencil lead… Just let the raised line guide your pencil.

I’ve only done a couple of models this way, but what I do is spray the entire kit with a dark gray primer or paint. Then, I paint the final color overtop of that. At this point, I use a very fine sandpaper (ie. 600+) and lightly go over the raised panel lines just enough to take off the top layer of paint. With patience and a light touch, you can get the underlying gray primer to show through and accent the panel lines.

Even though this model has recessed lines the same principal will work here. Take a fine black permanent marker and draw over the panel lines before painting. Paint the model in light coats and check often. The black lines should just show through.

i haven’t try it on a kit with a raised panel lines but you can use this techniq : after you finish painting the kit, try mixing clear paint with a drop of black paint and airbrush it to the panel lines,this will serve as your shade then use a pen or mechanical pencil to highligth it.remember, you just need to touch the top part of the panel lines or else you will have two lines on each side of the panel line!
RESCRIBING is taking a sharp tool almost like a dentist probing pick, and drawing it across the line. It takes out a small sliver of plastic making it recessed line. Some modelers even rescribe kits with recessed lines, why they do this I don’t know.
But for my technique you don’t have to do that. Just draw the over the raised or recessed line with a marker before painting. The reason I had to do that to the Airacomet is Hobbycraft’s panel lines are too soft, and I don’t like to rescribe. I usually make more of a mess.
Damn… what kind of tool can i use to reescribe panel lines???.. a knife?
There are company’s that sell scribers specifically. If you look through any issue of FSM you will see them. Some people are able to get used picks from their dentist that work well. Or, for those of us on a budget, you can just use the backside of your #11 hobby knife blade.

I wouldn’t bother rescribing the panel lines, it is a pretty arduous task and rather advanced. It is fairly simple to accent raised panel lines. I use a technique similar to MKISH. After applying the A/C color, I apply a “dusting” of a darker color over the whole A/C then very lightly sand this off. It will stay in the ridge on the side of the raised line and highlight it very well.
If you do want to rescribe lines in the future I reccommend the Tamiya scribing tool. I fooled around with dentists tools for years before getting the Tamiya tool. I wish I had had one all along, it is great.

well im not that advanced and i sanded al the rivits off a model and rescribe the panel lines and got it to be bare metal silver… all in 2 hours…
