How to paint 1/700 scale aircraft canopies

I am building a 1/700 scale U.S.S. Midway and am currently working on painting the aircraft. Because of the small scale I am not quite sure how to tackle the canopy. I have seen people paint them blue, black and I have even read of someone removing the canopy and using a clear epoxy to recreate the glass. I wanted some opionions of people who have already have done this… and also should the canopy be painted gloss or flat?

I have never worked in that scale.

Maybe you should ask it on the ship forum, since this is more of a ship modelling question.
