How to insert active links into a thread

I’ve tried using the “link” icon, but all that does is provide an address. I want to be able to click on and link to the site.

If all you want to do is post a link in the body of your post, just copy the link and paste it right into the editing pane. I don’t bother with the Insert feature at all, whether for links or for images.

For example, here is the NavSource Naval History site:

http://navsource.org/

I just copied that from the address field in the browser, and pasted it here.
