How to glue inside a canopy?

How can I glue a piece of clear plastic to the inside of a canopy without the seam showing on the outside as there is no framing to hide it.

It is the piece of flat armored glass on the inside of the curved windshield of a P-40.

Crystal clear did not give the best results and showed through ugly.

Will future itself be OK as a glue?

Thanx

Use Future/Klear. It works for PE. If is does not work with clear plastic then it is very easy to remove.

I thought of doing this, I just wondered how well it will “glue” as it is so thin I thought it has almost no gap filling quality.

Do you just keep the piece in place and run a bead of future over the seam with a brush?

Will future go slightly thicker is I leave a little of it open in a container?

Are you sure it is an armored glass section and not part of the reflex gunsight? The later is glued to the top of panel or fuselage rather than the canopy.

If it is really the armored section of windscreen, either epoxy or transparency cement, like Micro Scale Krystal Kleer or Testors Window Cement will do a good job.

Hi Don,defenately armored section.

I did try micro crystal clear but it was un-successfull, even working extremely carefully. Where you put (even a small) glue bead and then press it into the windshield it will “squish out” and look ugly.

Yes, but after it squishes out, you just wipe the excess away with a q tip damp with water.

I did, the hassle came in where the armored section sits against the canopy. The inside patr has almost no access.

I “glued” is on with neat future and it looks a lot cleaner, I just have to see if it stays there!

The full size plane has a bar that retains the glass to the canopy frame, I will see if I can make a part and install it to the top inside of the frame, hopefully this will also help to keep it inplace.

Thanx for all the advice guys

Here are the best pictures I’ve seen, from Detail and Scale. Looks like it is a bit behind the windscreen itself in these pictures:

Thanx John. I managed to get it secure inside the canopy with future and it looks way better than it die. I now just hope the future will keep it there.

I will also have to make a frame of sorts to replicate the pix and glue that inplace, but I think the worst is over LOL

It ain’t pretty, but it will have to do. I used sprue for the cross bar and side framing.

Looks very nice!
