How silver is a Sabre?

I am working on a 1/72 Sabre. The instructions call for silver overall.

What little I have used silver color, well it is very silver! I am concerned that it will be too shiny.

Is it accurte to use it as is out of the bottle ( Testors Model Master ), or would it be at least closer to reality to add in a little black to tone it down a bit.

Not looking for exact proportions, just confirmation of the idea one way or the other.

Thanks ahead of time.

The Sabre was Aluminum. Alclad2 Aluminum would be about right. You can mask & spray various panels in lighter or darker shades of Aluminum for increased realism & visual interest.

1000 Thanks!

The first link is to John Glenn’s Saber that he flew in Korea. At that time it wasn’t quite as polished as it was in that photograph, as can be seen at This Link I guess it all depends on what point in an aircraft’s career that you are trying to replicate. They all had glory days and rainy days.
