I just read a Forbes article about Microsoft adding user data collection updates to Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers:
which, aparently, allows sending user data to Microsoft.
Per the Apple website

it appears that Apple is not supposed to collect data unless the user opts-in to data collection.
Out of curiosity, has anyone decided to avoid Windows 10 due to personal data collection concerns?
I took care of that little problem in advance, by buying an iMac last year!

they want to mke sure big bro can watch easly they are finding people like me with win 7 wont upgrade because of the forced update feature so this is their way of getting what they want of course that is why i keep auto upsate off
I work in the IT industry and I can say that no matter what there is a huge amount of information out there about people. The main thing to remember is that there is so much of it out there its difficult to track individual people just form that. The company that provides your internet has all the info and you cant stop that as they are the pipeline to the net itself.
You can use VNP software to mask where you go but if you use any search engine then that will log it anyway just not against your IP but even that is possible believe me.
I would be more worried about the possibility of being traced by my phone using the GPS which is much harder to stop, even if you turn off the GPS generally its not turned off you’ve just turned off the interface the GPS itself is still running.
Dont believe what Apple tell you either they collect it just like everyone else no matter what the T&C’s say, they have lots of clauses which contradict each other just so they are covered.
Personally I have updated to W10 as the data collection side of things doesnt bother me, I have a high security clearance so I get checked often and my search history is looked at every now and then as part of that. As I was told the first time I was checked, “If its illegal then why would you look? If its immoral why would they care?”

I know about MAC addresses, data packet assembly, and enough about our newest generation of smart phones to realize that they are always seeking a connection with either a tower or a local Sting Ray
( hmm…always liked those 1963 hard top Chevys[;)]- wish I could afford one…[:'(]).
I purchase software to protect my OS flavor of the year from Root Kits, Key Loggers and such.
Having an OS manufacturer insert telemetry ( or data mining ) patches into my OS seems only one step away from what I have been trying to prevent since the first time I joined a network : personal data theft.
It is that simple.
