I don’t recall anyone asking this question before or at least recently so I’m going to. How many models do you have in your collection? Are they all on display and if so how do you display them? For myself I have 52 on display. Eighteen are armour, the rest are WWII aircraft. All but three are 1/48th scale. There’s two 1/144th’s and one 1/32nd. I display them on shelves that line my basement walls. I bought the metal shelving strips and brackets at Lowes Home Improvement. They’re the type that are adjustable, kinda like the ones you see along the walls in retail shops. They have rectangle holes thruout the length of the mounting strips for the brackets. You can position the brackets anywhere along the metal strips. I like that because you can continually adjust the shelves as the collection grows. I use plexiglass for the shelves with strips of pine underneath to help to keep the 'glass from sagging. I also have resessed floodlamps (track lights) all along the walls so you can see everything well. The 'glass shelves allow the light to shine all the way thru to the bottom one. I tried wooden shelves to begin with but the light couldn’t get to anything below the top one. Couldn’t see the bottom rows very good so I switched to 'glass. Big improvement. What say all? I only returned to modeling a little over two years ago, so my “collection” is currently only 15 models and they are displayed in various locations. I have a large 1/35 diorama and my 1/350 NX-01 on two dressers the bedroom, 4 of my 1/35 armor models are on floating glass shelves in the dining room, and the remaining 9 1/35 armor models are on two shelves in the den/library. Since the den has 28 shelves, I have plenty of room to expand as the collection grows.
Lets see I have 90 on display and 120 unbuilt crammed into my bedroom closet.[:)] More models than clothes on my side. [:I]I’m having a hard time staying away from E-bay right now. [}:)] Trying to hard to add to my collection. I’m currently in the planning phase of builing a cabinet for more but I don’t look forward to working with all that glass[banghead]. Hud thats sounds like a nice set-up you got going how about some pictures of it
As for me, just 10 models sit on my bookcase. Pathetic! I am about to build a new bookcase and place it in my hobbyroom, once I get stuff cleaned out. I could add at least 3 kits to the shelves before the years out. Perhaps more. I have some 27 kits in the stash. At least 5 are almost finished.
