How i make Arieal antenna springs

I posted this in aircraft and figured it should actualy be here.

I know thres been alot of questons from some people on how to do ariall antenna’s this how i do mine. Mind you i build alot of german 1/32 A/C but i think you can use your imagination for useing this technic on anything just down size it for 1/48 so here is a pictorial step by step. I use cloaks and clarks .005 nylon thred and fine silver wire, the drill bit is smal i dont know what size but you can expariment till you find whats right for you. on my Fw where the antenna comes out of the canopy i drill a hole the same dia of the tread i feed the thread through the hole, i then tie a knot on the insde of the canopy put a drop of CA on the knot and pull it tought until dry then start the arial antenna build up see pictures below.

Hope this helps out

Rob

Pic of wire and drill bit

Bit in my panavice

Wire attached to top of vice with tape make shure you have enough over lap to feed it through the spring about 4inches long peace should do it

start winding the wire around the bit

Push the loose wire toward the vice

TaDa you have a spring

Loop one end throught the spring to make the attachment point for the thread

Then carefuly puul though until you have a smal loop

Drill hole where arial spring will attach

Feed the other end through the hole you drilled

Then feed it through the spring just like before

Spring atached cut off the excess wire and apply a small amount of CA glue to both side. Dont get any glue on the loops.

Hers the second part. after you attached the thread to the conapy or antenna mastyou need to feed the thread through the loop on the spring make shure you have enought length so you can tape the excess to the leading edge of the main wing. Make shure you take up the slack the thread streaches so dont worry just dont pull to hard on it.

Hers the tread i use a magic marker to paint mine.

Thread looped through the arial spring

This is the thread pulled tougt see how its taped to the fusalage this just temp since my build isnt evan close to being done.

OK once you have that all done take another peace of the wire and feed it under the thread and make a knot.

Take a couple small pairs of pliar’s and pull both end till the knot pinches the thread

Cut off the excess wire and apply a small and i mean small amount of CA clue to the knot to seal it let dry and there you have it.

Like i said you can expaeriment with find out what works for you.

Great tip! Thanks! [:D]

NO prob, Glad to help others out.

Very cool technique. Good step by step too. Thanks[:D]
