how far should a needle project?

hi guys, i’m fairly new to a dual action airbrush after finally hanging up my old humbrol single action. been spraying a bit of futre and thought i had it all cleanded out but looks like i was wrong. lol sfter stripping and cleaning, how far should the needle project from the tip?

Howdy!

I’d say a few (2-5) diameters of the nozzle opening. Does it make sense? Other way around, after opening the needle “all the way” it should still be visible from outside looking from the side of the airbrush. Hope I make myself clear here. Hope it helps, have a nice day

My airbrushes (all based on the 100/200 series Badger) have the tip sticking out 2-3mm with the spray regulator taken OFF. With the regulator in place about half that distance.

2mm projection on H&S medium needle, although the finer is about 1/2>1mm longer & the coarse a similar amount shorter.

cheers guys, i’ll let you know how i get on.
