During a run to the local Michael’s for X-Acto blades this afternoon, I overheard a pretty heated argument between two grown men over the pronunciation of “decals”. Almost came to blows…anyhow, what is correct? Do you pronounce it as “dee-kales” or “deck-alls”?
Neither!!
Dee- cals like “cal” in California.
Dee cals is how I pronounce it.
Heh - old men arguing about how to pronounce decals. Should have video taped it and post it on YouTube. Must be a couple of grumpy Englishmen spoiling for a fight! Did you try to intervene to correct both of them the proper pronouncement of decals?
They are actually called wet slide transfers .Color assisted.
BlackSheep - pretty certain one fellow was a Canadian tourist (“deck-alls”) and the other was likely from the local area (MSU Bobcats hat and “dee-kales”). By the time I walked in on things (X -Acto products on the wall directly across from the model kits), things had gone past the Monty Python debate stage to standing chest to chest and balling up fists. Didn’t seem important enough of an issue to intervene. The ten year old inside me wanted to put on a French accent and pronounce it “day-cles”, but didn’t seem like it was an appropriate time to be a wise guy. Still, it got me to wondering if I have been pronouncing things correctly all these years…
Oh the humanity… LOL!!!
Not to be confused with “decolletage” and no I won’t post an image. Been sent to the chiller here enough times.
In regards to those two, I think it’s pronounced, “idiots”…
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, both pronunciations are correct.
Don’t forget your ball glove stik
Both colonials are … wrong! they are Transfers! [;)]
Keep in mind that the word decal is short for decalcomania, To me, saying the latter helps to get an idea of how best to pronounce decal,
Cooler, that’s right. I couldn’t understand the guy anyways…
Just say stickers…problem solved.[:D]
Why Not ,Darned Waterslide markings , that way everyone can be happy ? Besides I never liked them anyway . Paint works better ! Actually they ain’t to bad , just test my patience and clumsiness some . Besides I have always called them D-Cals as in decant .
Oh now we’re getting a history lesson from Don. LOL! Kidding, Don.
