How do you fill gaps with CA?

Im sorry if this has been asked before and I think I have a vague idea on how its done but I wanna be sure.

Well, I’m somewhat new to this, but…

Normal CA won’t work, I don’t think. You need the gap-filling super glues. They come in different thicknesses, but medium seems to work the best.

Way I do it is to pour a small puddle of glue onto something else (Paper, plastic, etc) and transfer the glue to where I need it. Slightly over-fill the gap. I then cheat a little, and use some CA accelerator and put one drop onto the superglue.

The next ten minutes are the very best time to sand it flush. If you wait too long, the CA sets much harder than the plastic and you’ll have difficulty sanding it down without destorying what’s around it.

QT

My method is similar to QT’s. The difference being that I never use accelerator on it. Makes the cured CA way too hard. After putting it in the joint I WAIT about 10 minutes before sanding.

I use QT’s approach with great success. Just make sure you get your sanding done inside that time window or the glue will indeed be too hard.

I found that if you file a sprue into a powder and mix it with the CA then it is a little easier to sand. If using resin, use resin powder.

QT’s method is the one I use too. Anyone ever accidently get CA on their finger and then kick it with accelerator? What a eye opener. LOL

My experience lies with MusicCity – whenever I apply accelerator, I have found that the CA becomes far too hard for sanding. I’d recommend testing your CA glue and accelerator combination on some scrap to see if it remains sandable after mixing. Otherwise, I’ve always had luck with the old 10 minute air-dry method for CA before sanding.

Was once an Eye Closer for me [X-)]

Carefully. [:D]

CA glues skin to plastic every bit as easily as it glues plastic to plastic. And skin is REALLY hard to sand off nicely…[B)][:P]

Especially if you get it in your eyes![:o)][;)]

Edit: OOPS! I didn’t see the 2nd post above

Well really they can fix your eye if you get it in it  Maybe :stuck_out_tongue:

Let me just echo something these others have said…sand it after about ten minutes! The first time I filled with CA I waited until the next day. When sanding I screwed up the hull of the ship around the bottom seam so badly that I had to change the way I mounted it to its base in order to hide the damage.
