That doesn’t include what we toy soldier & figure painters call our grey army. I have around 300 kit figures and castings that are unpainted/unfinished. Plus I have a stash of molds, and metal, to cast more.
I may get rid of most of my model kit stash, but I fully intend to paint every single toy soldier in my grey army.
Wow, you guys are putting me to shame. I can’t imagine having 100+ unbuilt kits around. I don’t know how fast you guys build them but that would take me a lifetime to put together. Do you expect you’ll build them all, or do you acknowledge that there’s more there than you’ll ever get through?
No, we don’t expect to build them all but you may find a few kits at a vender table that’s basicly free so you grab those. A friend may gift you several more kuts. Over the years you find other kits that are in your wishlist. Some like to but several of the same kit to build different variants of something they worked on. I’ll never finish what I have but all I have to do is look through my stash of over 300, to find something I want to build next.
Ohhhhhhhhh, I don’t know. Gave up counting a while back. I think, IIRC (I’m 81), the last count was around 200 and I’ve won a few more at raffles and bought a few here and there.
I’ll build what I can (about 2 to 4 per year) until the Man upstairs calls me to the great workbench in the sky. I’ll ask Him how many I can take with me. The rest will go to the members of our club, if they want them. If not, my wife has instructions for their dispersal. All completed WWII models will go to the museum I restore models for. The rest are on the list with the kits.
Well,as for the stash, some may call me a rookie, but I’m trying to build them down, not leave so many my wife doesn’t know what to do with them. From here on in,it’s either going to go down or stay, but never, never will I even approach 50,makes no sense for me.
100 kits built and broken still in their moving boxes. When we moved from Portland Or. 12 years ago, I didn’t pay attention to how I packed so they currently rest in pieces.
12 half built kits. I have started trying to get back into the swing of things, but my life is NOT my own at the moment so, there they sit…
I don’t know how to count my " spare" parts pile … 30 pounds of miscellaneous pieces ???
Seriously, I really need to take the time and inventory all of my unbuilt kits. While I realize there are a some good tools out there manage a kit inventory, I end up using that time I would be inventorying for modeling time.
Over the last three years I’ve been selling some of them (well over 150) at the annual IPMS contest in Columbus, Ohio; donating around 75 to the active military members overseas who love to model; and giving away nearly 20 to local kids trying to spark the interest in the hobby.

OK, I’ll play this game and say my inventory of unbuilt kits is around 100-125. I just ordered three more so I guess it will continue to rise. I’ve been working at spreadhing out the quantity through all of the normal modeling subject (automotive, aircraft, military/armor, ships, space, sci-fi, and figures).
Since I only get 3-5 done a year I suppose anything left will go to the local club when I leave this earth.
I’m a slow builder, so don’t keep a huge stash of kits. I’d say no more than 5-10 at any given time, and that includes some 1:72 that I will probably never build as I’ve kind of migrated to more detailed work in 1:48, 1:32.
Seven large U-haul packing boxes full of Cars-,1958-2004, one or two with Planes -1956-1995, Two overflowing with Ships -1956-2004. Not counting the ones NOT in packing Boxes. At least twelve paper models unbuilt a six or seven under construction. This is the results of Fifty five years. many are to replace ones lost in 1982, others acquired over the years cause I “liked them.”
I will, and have left instructions with my lady friend that when I go to the “Eternal Hobby Shop” that anything left behind, Built, Unbuilt and Started go to the Audie Murphy Rec.dept. My LEGOS, about half as much to either" St.Judes" (if they will accept them) and anything left to a “children in crisis center”
All I will have in my stash then Is a love of Mankind, My God and Family. Good Enough !! All in the works, to anyone that wants to finish them, My scratch Builds to the same! See simple Solution! Went to one of those places where they sold coffins. Nutin big enough all that and me.
One friend suggested I inventory all of it and put it in an armorglass, clipboard? on my tombstone and get buried with it all in a Watertight Container. Yeah Sure?
I’m currently north of 320. Cars, ships, Sci-fi, Aircraft and armor. I have plenty to last a very long time. I add some still as I am able to get certain kits I think are beyond cool, otherwise I’ll pick one up if the price is stupid cheap. Someday these will be worth far more than they are now. Just look at today’s prices vs several years ago.
WOW I feel imbarrassed. thought I had alot. But all you guys have many more than I could imagine. I believe I have only 15 to 30 models kits. About 25 to 30 rc vehicles to either restore or build. Guess I am the little guy again.
