I don´t like to complane, especially not on this plesent forum, so consider this more like an ideea.
Though is very nice to show pictures of planes or details with a coin as a size reference, I don´t have a clue about how big your coins are over there. Prehaps others from different countries feel the same way, I don´t know.
My idee is that you can use a referece that we all can recognice like a bottle cap, or even better - a No. 11 blade.
I agree with the #11 blade idea. That would be a great point of common reference.
Thanks, Gilmund, for the suggestion. Another idea would be to lay a ruler along side the item being photographed, preferably with the metric side close to the item. Most of the world uses the metric system so they can easily relate to this. Even us hard head stubborn types in the US can find a ruler with inches on one side and mm on the other.
Hey, how about we can send a picture of a model with #11 hobby blade next to it into space?
After all it is universally recognzed scale reference, and the aliens then can send us back a device that can make every kit we ever wanted! No more wait for Trumpeter to release that __________ in 1/32 and charge $150! Yeah! Just think of the possibilites # 11 blade can open…
Seriously, I love the idea of putting some sort of reference next to pictures when posting.[:D]
What about one of those cheapo rulers from the grocery store with both inches and centimeters on it…that would satisfiy the non-US crowd and the yanks alike. (The ones that are the same plastic as the aircraft canopies.)
Well, not many of us here in Japan use X-Acto knives or #11 blades (I have some from the States, though), as the most popular brand of hobby knife here is Olfa.
So…how about a D-cell or triple-A battery?
Or a credit card (cover your numbers!)?
Or…here’s a crazy idea…how about a ruler (with metric and imperial measurements on it)?
There’d be no questions there!
LOL!
Gilmund - I never thought of it that way - never thought the size of a coin could be in question - but you’re right. I wouldn’t know how big the coins are they YOU carry around - so the suggestion of using a #11 blade as a universal reference is actually pretty smart.
Brian’s suggestion of a ruler with metric and imperial markings would also be pretty effective. Good ideas.
