? How best to glue vinyl parts to plastic

I have an Academy M-60A1 that includes vinyl tires for the road wheels. What is the best way to attach these? Thanks for help.

Mike

I would use superglue for those. maybe a little bit of epoxy?

when my M1A2 1/72 came from Dragon, the vinyl was not adhering at all, so I had to sew it together, but that was linking vinyl to vinyl so I don’t think you have to go that far.

hope it helps!

Dont the vinyl tires fit tight enough over the plastic wheels that you dont need to glue them ?

From experimenting on vinyl tank teads, I have found that Ambroid’s liquid Plastic Welder has a limited ability to weld/cement vinyl plastic.

I would think this should be just about right for this application.

Hobby Lobby and/or your local hobby store should have it available.

I built this kit and dont remember having to glue them on , but if you do glue them on then use a tiny drop of CA gel so it wont make a mess . I’d glue the tires on after the wheels are painted , thats the big advantage of the separate vinyl tires , but i’m sure you already knew that Mike . [:)]

Right on! No adhesive needed. Should have thought of that myself. Thank you.

Your welcome Mike , i checked my model of that kit and the tires do fit snug . Glad i was able to help out !

Gernally I have to stretch mine over.

Be very careful, some of them (AMT F7F tigercat in particular!!!) do NOT react well with plastic. and WILL in time eat the plastic and turn it into a puddle of goo…got three tigercats that way.

use a good layer of primer and paint on the plastic if you are not sure, or a thin layer of foil such as Bare Metal foil.

I avoid vinyl tires when possible now.

Thanks for the reminder about vinyl reacting to plastic. I did prime to preclude that problem. Mike

Wow Pat [:O], i never noticed that , guess i better go check my kits !!!
