I’m curious on the quality of these kits. I’ve worked on a few Bandai kits before and they are exquisit in detail fit and finish. The decals on the otherhand kind of suck on the Bandai models. My past experience with Revell aircraft have been mediocre how are the Revell Star Wars kits?
Which ones? the sound ones that go for around $20? I bought all of them for my son and one for myself (the falcon, TIE, black and regular X-wing, U-Wing). Of those, the TIE is pretty nice.
The regular Revell Star Wars kits are pretty nice. The only downside is that they are pre-decorated with no decals. My son and I built most of them. For the Force Awakens, we got the Kylo Ren command shuttle and Poe’s X-Wing. These are good model kits. I wish the X-Wing came with a pilot and that the command shuttle wings tilted like in the movie.
Unlike the Bandai kits (and Fine Molds kits) that came in “standard” model scales of 1/144, 1/72, 1/48, the Revell kits are box scale without regard to one another.
Revell also do a master Series range which are re-boxes of the Fine Molds kits.
I have the Force Awakens X-Wing that’s Poe’s ship and as Rob said it’s a nice kit, but it would be better if it had a pilot figure. My son built the Millennium Falcon and the AT-M6 which are both pretty nice, and light up and have sounds. I’m planning on getting the AT-M6 for myself. I also picked up the Resistance A-Wing and it has some very nice detail. It’s prepainted and has sounds but I know that I’ll be able to do something nice with it.
I am presently building the Master Series 1/48 X Wing. This model is actually a Fine Molds kit. As has been said about this kit, it is a very nice with good fits, no flash and good engineering.
I recently watched a YouTube comparison between this kit and the new Bandai 1/48 moving edition (motor, lights, gimmick) and the bottom line was both are great kits but the Bandai had better detail at the same price. If Revell wasn’t paying to use Fine Molds molds and licensing to Star Wars then their price would likely be lower and a good incentive to buy it. I lucked out though. Having found none available online I found one at my local Hobby Town and it had a 25% sticker so I couldn’t pass it up.
The kits themselves aren’t bad. The issue I have with them is that thier are no markings they are prepainted and they are box scale, which is to say that you can’t typically pose them with other ships even from Revell. The Bandai kits are better engineered, come with sticker or slide decals and are usually in a consistent scale so you can compare…
Revell kits hmmm… Like it has been said there is no constant scale between models, but if you are looking for a decent sized kit then these area about the only ones you will find over 1/72 scale. They are pre painted, but I prime the pieces and paint how I like it to look. One thing I have noticed is that some of the smaller detail can get soft, for instance, my Spec-Ops TIE engine exhausts nozzels have detail around them. It started of pretty good but as it went around the detail got softer and softer until it was practically gone. Can’t say if they are all like that but I know you will not find that on any Bandai kit. Now I say this for Revell molds, I am sure their reboxed kits from Fine Molds and Zevzeda are nice. Which really frustrates me because the Venator is a really nice kit, which means they have the ability to make nice Star Wars models.
Bottom line is, for me, I like the Revell kits because I use them to come up with different color schemes or practice some sort of damage or kitbash. I get the Bandai kits to model the “real ships” of Star Wars.

The large scale Revell Poe X-Wing is a nice kit and a good size. I wish it was done with decals to give the option of regular or Poe’s black one and in a standard scale.
