Thanks in advance

Good question, my guess is probably not. They seemed to get the cream of the armor: Tiger’s and Panthers for example.
i havnt found any ss yet but a Panzer Ace called Albert Ernst used a Nashorn, and it was whitewashed
a nashorn and a hornisse were SP artillery right? im npt sure about it
Technicaly, I belive that they were Panzerjager, tank hunters. I would think that they could be used as both, their 88mm cannon surly was. Additionally, There was a version armed with a 105mm howitzer called the Hummel that was a self propelled artillery peice. The easiest way to tell them apart is the barrel, the Nashorn’s 88 had a muzzel break, the Hummel’ 105 didn’t.
they are Self propelled anti tank guns
Hornisse means Hornet and Hitler didnt like the name so made the name chane to Nashorn (Rhinoceros)
Yeah, the Hornisse and Nashorn were the same vehicle, the Hummel though appeared with a 150 mm at about the time the Hornisse/Nashorn was going out of production (it was only an interim solution anyway)
Does anyone know whether the Hummel was a straight mod of the Nashorn, ie take out the 88 and replace with 150mm, with some vehicle bashing to make it fit?
cheers
ill have to do a little looking, but the late Hummel base wasnt used
the Nashorn only had early type hulls
are you thinking about putting the AFV Club 88 on a hummel hull
Albert Ernst fought with the 519 Heavy Panzerjaeger battalion in Russia, equipped with the Hornisse. He and the units under his command smoked many a T-34, usually when heavily outnumbered. Quite a feat considering the limited traverse of the Hornisse’s 88. Superior tactics and teamwork made the difference.
I read in his book that he took out an is 2 from 3000 meters!!![:0][:0][:0][:0]
It is amazing that his hornisse’s lived that long, as they were different from the nashorn if a few different ways, you can check pmms for their review. He must have been a good commander!
